Children’s Hospital

The Children’s Hospital New Orleans specialty clinic is now relocated to a new, expanded multi-specialty clinic, located in the heart of Baton Rouge’s medical district on the campus of Baton Rouge General Medical Center. The new clinic features 24 exam rooms, 2 treatment rooms and a dedicated room for echocardiograms. The expanded clinic will allow for increased capacity, expanded provider coverage for our pediatric subspecialties, and the addition of mental and behavioral health services. White Light Night 

November 20, 6:00-10:00pm in Mid City

Held each Fall, White Light Night in the Mid City Art & Cultural District is an evening to celebrate local art, food and music. Meet the artists behind some of the latest trends in the city, enjoy live music while you shop and eat in the best establishments the area has to offer.

Ensuring everyone’s safety throughout this evening of celebration of community and art is our first priority. We ask that all attendees observe the city’s mask mandate. This year’s event will be held entirely outdoors and we ask that participating businesses provide sanitation stations and monitor capacity to ensure guests are able to maintain social distancing. Moreover, free shuttles, which are often crowded, will not be provided.

Holiday Market at the Mill in New Roads

November 20-22

The City of New Roads brings you the 9th annual Market at the Mill, set for November 20th-22nd. The market is a three-day shopping event held at the refurbished Cotton Mill in downtown New Roads.
Shoppers can expect a variety of vendors, craftsmen and artisans selling hand-crafted items, such as pottery, garden items, handmade jewelry, glassware, wooden furniture and gifts for everyone. You can also find decorative items, antiques, and many unique, hand-crafted items. We also have clothing for the whole family.
Admission is $5 per day, which includes a MATM shopping bag for the first 2000 shoppers.

Christmas On Pointe

Holiday Outdoor Fun

2020 Santa’s Arrival Tailgate Parade at Bass Pro

November 7, 5:00-7:00pm

This is a parade where families are welcome to come ring in the holiday season and see Santa as he opens his “Santa’s Wonderland” here at Bass Pro Shops. Tailgate Parking starts at 2pm in our Southeast Parking lot. Please follow the directions of our parking attendants. Bring your blankets and folding chairs or just sit on you tailgate as we wait for Santa to arrive. We will have crafts and hot cocoa for the kids while we wait. Stay at your cars and we will bring it to you. There will not be any Santa Photos or indoor activities this evening.
Social distancing is very IMPORTANT!

Flashlight Night at the Swamp

November 13, 5:00-9:00pm

Take an evening stroll through Bluebonnet Swamp once per season during our Swamp Flashlight Nights! Bring your family and friends for a fun group outing or head out on the trails solo to enjoy this BREC park after hours. Before or after your night hike, meet some of our resident educational animals in the nature center. The swamp trails can be really dark at night – so don’t forget to bring a flashlight. If you don’t have one, check out our gift shop for some options. Close-toed shoes and insect repellant are recommended.

Candy Cane Lane Drive Thru Christmas Light Park in Calhoun

November 13-January 2, 6:00-10:00pm

Candy Cane Lane is a mile-long wooded drive decorated with more than 1 million Christmas lights at 170 Hwy 151 N in Calhoun, Louisiana. The park will be open from November 13 to January 2, each night from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Movie in the Park: Arctic Dogs at Lovett Road Park

November 19, 6:00-9:00pm

Bring a picnic and join us for a family movie in the park under the stars. Limited seating will be marked off and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Popcorn and water will be available for participants. This event is FREE and open to all ages.

Holiday Lights at Baton Rouge General

November 20-December 31, 5:30-10:00pm

The lights are lit! This year we’ve implemented new guidelines to keep families safe while still spreading joy including masks requirements, limited capacity (you may have to wait a few minutes in line), no food or drinks and hand sanitizer stations throughout.
While we won’t be hosting our weekly family nights with Santa, snow and food trucks this year because they draw such large crowds, you can still enjoy the lights nightly from 5:30 – 10:00pm until December 31.

Running of the Elves 5k

The 2020 season is the 34th anniversary of City Park’s largest fundraiser, Celebration in the Oaks. This year it will be a driving tour with Add-On Activities in Carousel Gardens, too.

Celebration in the Oaks in City Park is the most spectacular holiday lights festival in the country, with more than 165,000 visitors pouring into the Park to see the magical winter spectacle. City Park’s famous oaks are swathed in over a million twinkling lights and breathtaking light displays are scattered throughout 25 acres of the Park, including the Botanical Garden, Storyland, and Carousel Gardens Amusement Park. Reindeer Ride

Welcome the holiday season with a unique nighttime family bike ride. We will ride up the levee from Farr Park campground to downtown Baton Rouge for Baton Rouge’s Downtown Christmas Lighting Celebration. Participants will leave the levee trail head and join in a colorful bike parade through the downtown area, partake in the holiday festivities, then return to Farr Park together. What better way to start the holiday season than with this event!

A Jane Austen Christmas

December 5, 6:00-8:00pm  

A Jane Austen Christmas, 6 – 8 p.m. The plantation comes to life during the holidays, as it shows off its seasonal decorations. Costumed guides accompany the visitor on a trip into the past through the candlelit Oakley House. Take a taste of wassail and chestnuts by the fire, or just enjoy the yearly Christmas dancing. A Rural Life Christmas at Rural Life Museum

Ring in the Christmas season with the 19th century Louisiana celebration.  Musical groups, demonstrating artisans, storytellers and costumed re-enactors will be present to set the holiday mood.  The event will conclude with bonfire and a very special visit from Papa Noel.

Cajun Christmas Photos with Santa at The Royal Standard

Visit our Cajun Christmas setting at our Perkins near Highland location to have your kiddos Christmas picture taken with Santa, by our professional photographer!
Santa has a lot of upcoming plans, so in order to keep him and all of us safe, we’ll be following heath guidelines and taking pictures in a styled outdoor setting, socially distancing in the line and frequently sanitizing.
Walk-ins welcome, or beat the line by reserving your time slot online in advance. Select your time slot during the checkout process and we’ll email you a reminder to confirm your photo session.
For $30+ tax, we’ll email your digital images within a week of your photo so you can print or publish.

Garden Discoveries: Using Natural Materials for Holiday Decorating

The Baton Rouge Botanic Garden Foundation will host a FREE Garden Discoveries event virtually via Zoom at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 14th to demonstrate how to use natural materials to create beautiful holiday decorations.

Peregrin’s Joel Franklin has a real artist’s eye in creating gorgeous interior and exterior home decorations for any season. He is noted for using natural materials like magnolia leaves, pine cones, holly branches, birch logs, mosses, and flowers and seeds. His presentation will show how to select materials and combine them for decorations from large outdoor door wreaths and garlands to small centerpieces, mantles, and bouquets for interiors.

Skating on the River

Join us at the Raising Cane’s River Center! Ticket price includes 75 minutes of skating and skates. Please arrive early as more popular skate sizes do run out. Participants are given an apron and hat upon arrival. Suggested ages are from 3-7 years old. One parent/guardian will be allowed to accompany/help the child.
Due to current COVID-19 related mandates, participants will be spread out and must wear a mask upon entry to LCI. Class participants are limited to 12 children, plus adult “helper” (seated at the child’s table). Price is $50 per child participating in the event.

Mini Holiday Workshop – Gnome for the Holidays – Ages 5 – 9 (Suggested)

Join LCI chefs in a hands-on cooking workshop for kids!
In this Holiday Mini Workshop, kids will bake their own cupcakes to decorate. They will also learn to create buttercream icing and decorate cupcakes for the holidays.
Participants are given an apron and hat upon arrival. Suggested ages are from 5-9 years old. Participants must wear close toed shoes.
Due to current COVID-19 related mandates, participants will be spread out and must wear a mask upon entry to LCI. Parents or Guardians cannot be in the room, but may stand outside and may watch the child work through several windows. Class size is limited to 10 child participants. Price is $75 per participant.

In this Holiday Mini Workshop, kids will learn make and bake their own holiday cookies in fun designs. They will also learn to create buttercream icing and decorate a 3-D holiday cookie scene to take home.
Participants are given an apron and hat upon arrival. Suggested ages are from 7-12 years old. Participants must wear close toed shoes.
Due to current COVID-19 related mandates, participants will be spread out and must wear a mask upon entry to LCI. Parents or Guardians cannot be in the room, but may stand outside and may watch the child work through several windows. Class size is limited to 10 child participants. Price is $85 per participant.

Mini Holiday Workshop – Seasonings Greetings – Ages 9 – 15 (Suggested)

December 5 & 12, 9:00am, 12:30pm

Join LCI chefs in a hands-on cooking workshop for kids!
In this Holiday Mini Workshop, kids will learn to create something savory and sweet. On the sweet side, they will learn to make peppermint truffle candy and use modeling chocolate to create a reindeer. On the savory side, participants will create a savory strudel (think chicken pot pie in strudel form).
Participants are given an apron and hat upon arrival. Suggested ages are from 9-15 years old. Participants must wear closed toed shoes.
Due to current COVID-19 related mandates, participants will be spread out and must wear a mask upon entry to LCI. Class size is limited to 12 child participants per session. Price is $100 per participant.

Ice Tree – Glass and Resin Class at Art Unleashed

Join us and create your very own glass and resin masterpiece. In this class you will create an Ice Tree out of glass and finish it off with a resign coating. Cost is $65 and comes with everything need to complete this project.

Drive-In Concert Series at Perkins Rowe

November 5, 12, & 19, 6:00-8:00pm

Introducing a new drive-in concert series at The Rowe featuring Louisiana artists. Kicking it off is The Walrus – A Beatles Tribute Band on Thursday, 11/5, followed by The Chris LeBlanc Band on 11/12, and Travis Matte & The Kingpins on 11/19. Tickets are $30 per car – up to 5 people per car. In order to maintain proper social distancing, tickets are extremely limited. You must have a ticket to attend.

BRBT presents “Nutcracker Sweets”

November 15, 29, & December 13

Your virtual and interactive opportunity to join in the fun of the “Nutcracker, A Tale from the Bayou” via Zoom.
Every episode of this three part series* will introduce a unique part of the “Nutcracker” with storytelling, watching and learning our favorite parts of the show, dancing along with the ballerinas, plus crafting and enjoying treats that correspond to the dances you’ve learned.
*You may purchase all three events as a cost-saving package or as individual episodes. The Zoom recording will be sent to you the following Monday to enjoy all week!

Part 3 (Dec. 13), Sugar Plum Soirée begins while watching the dancing flowers, then meet the guest star of the ballet, Casey Dalton, our beautiful Sugar Plum fairy. She will teach you her memorable dance and you’ll create your very own decorated pointe shoe with other treats.

Holiday Brass at Whimsical Alley

December 5, 7:00-8:30pm

One of the Baton Rouge’s favorite holiday traditions is headed to Zachary for the first time ever! The beautiful grounds at Whimsical Alley set the scene for this special edition of Holiday Brass. The Symphony brass, percussion and harp perform traditional holiday favorites, including some special arrangements for the BRSO.

As much as we would like to perform outdoors, this concert is subject to weather conditions and temperature. If needed, we will move the concert indoors.

Films at Manship presents “It’s A Wonderful Life”

December 13, 2:00-4:30pm

Our Christmas Tradition continues. This amazing film is a can’t-miss on our big screen. Consider making a day of it with lunch at one of the great downtown restaurants and walking over to support your Manship Theatre.

2020 Nightmare Before Christmas Variety Show

December 19, 7:00-10:00pm

Join 10/31 Consortium for a Christmas party like no other!
This “Nightmare Before Christmas” themed variety show will feature live acts by local performers and dance krewes. Wear anything Christmas or Halloween – or combine the two!
Admission includes one drink ticket and appetizers. Must be 21+.
Space is highly limited due to Phase III restrictions. Face masks required.

Jenny is originally from Kenner, LA, and considers herself a New Orleans girl at heart. She moved to Pineville in 2004 to attend college where she met her funny and always entertaining husband Brandon. Together they relocated to Baton Rouge almost 10 years ago and married in 2008. They added their joyful daughter Salem to the crew in April 2014, blue-eyed son Declan in July 2015, and baby Liesel in 2019 and now live in Zachary. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication/Journalism from LSU and has previously done some freelance writing. She now works full-time for the State of Louisiana. She and her family enjoy spending time together, making each other laugh and being a part of their church community. She loves wandering around Target, drinking coffee, watching HGTV, having people over and making any kind of craft.
