Alone Time as a Stay at Home Mom: Is That Even a Thing?

Finding time to yourself when you are a stay at home mom can be very difficult. Your world revolves around your tiny humans and it’s hard to get away. As a very extroverted mother, I was fine with my lack of quiet time until very recently. Now, in order to keep my sanity, I need time to myself. I have to get pretty creative since my husband’s job isn’t very traditional and he isn’t always available to help. So I’ve composed a list of things I do to get my “me” time quota.

Waking Up Early ::

Start setting your alarm an hour before everyone else in the house wakes up. It’s hard to do but when you do it, you will LOVE yourself for it! In that hour, you can exercise. You can have your coffee alone and wait for it … HOT! You can do a load of laundry. You can pick up around the house so that you’re completely available when the kiddos wake up. You can pray, do a devotional, or read. You have an hour to yourself – you just do you, momma!

Cutting Grass ::

Instead of my husband cutting grass on the weekends, I do! Most of the time, we put the younger kids to nap. Then my oldest and my husband get some one on one time. Everybody wins! I get on our riding lawn mower, equipped with my cup of water, my sun hat and my ear buds with my favorite Pandora station playing and I go to town! It’s so therapeutic for me! I dance, sing and jam out without a care in the world! I don’t have to feed anyone, bathe anyone or cater to anyone else’s needs! It’s my FAVORITE past time!

Quiet Time in the Car ::

Initiating quiet time in the car can be a game changer. Encourage your children to look outside or rest their eyes. The only rule is that you are quiet. You can rent audible books from the library for them to listen to while riding and then you can pop a pair of ear buds in and listen to your own podcast.

At Home Mani/Pedi ::

I can’t always get to the spa but I have made it a habit of doing my own nails and toes. I do powder dip at home and my own pedicures at home too! I use my hour in the mornings for doing that. It’s amazing how good it feels to have fresh nails and toes!

Bubble Baths ::

My second favorite past time! I stay up later some nights after I put the kids and hubby to bed. I fill up the tub with bubbles and Epsom salt, grab my kindle and relax in a QUIET bubble bath. Calgon takes me away and it leaves me feeling like a brand new momma, EVERY. TIME.

What are some things you do to get some alone time?
