Four Reasons Ruby Slipper Cafe Should Be Your Go To Baton Rouge Brunch

Brunch time is any time if you just believe and we believe in it often. We have what I like to call Brinner (breakfast for dinner) at least once a week. So of course when the Ruby Slipper reached out to see if we wanted to try out their new limited time specials, it was a no brainer! Without further ado here are our top reasons to check out your local Ruby Slipper!!

1. The Food

So this may be an obvious one, but y’all the food is out of this world! Everything has that homey taste that you always strive to achieve in the kitchen but can never quite reach. Our current favorites are the the Peacemaker and the Croque Madame. When your order the the Peacemaker you get to pick any 2 of their signature benedicts! I chose the Hot Smoked Salmon Bennie. It’s a hot-smoked salmon served over a buttermilk biscuit, topped with a poached egg, finished with red onion, flash-fried capers and a dill hollandaise sauce. It was salty and smokey and the creaminess from the egg was just the cherry on top. The other bennie I chose was the Eggs Blackstone. It was Applewood-smoked bacon, a grilled tomato and a poached egg served over a buttermilk biscuit.  This was the perfect combination of all the things I think about when I think about a classic breakfast! My husband ordered the Croque Madame. It’s a coffee-glazed ham and Swiss served on brioche bread and topped with Mornay sauce and a fried egg. It’s honestly as incredible as it sounds. My husband got the French fries as a side and as he states “imagine the best McDonald’s fry day you’ve ever had…the fries. They are 10x better than that.”  It was the perfect meld of sweet and savory.

2. The Specials

The Ruby Slipper is currently running 2 specials. The first is its current weekend afternoon special, which changes from time to time. Right now, it is centered around French Toast Batons! One is if you buy 2 entrees you get an order of their French Toast Batons for FREE on Saturday and Sunday from 1-3pm!  The French Toast Batons were the perfect crunch on the outside with the center being warm, fluffy, and airy. As soon as you took a bite it just melted in your mouth! They were the perfect amount of sweetness, but if you just love to dip you can always have their maple syrup on hand for a good little dunk!

For all of our friends out there who are all about a good deal here’s another one: Half Off Drinks!! They have Mimosas, Bloody Mary’s, Morning Margarita’s, AND boozy iced coffee!! OH MY!  This great deal is running for a limited time on every Tuesday and Wednesday from 7-10am- shout out to all the night shift moms!!

3. Service

Whenever you walk into a Ruby Slipper you are always greeted as if you’re a regular and they know who you are. The waiters are attentive and have an eye for detail, not once were we left waiting for refills! They are one of the most kid-friendly restaurants we have found in our community. Our 3-year-old was greeted at the table and was given the opportunity to order himself and that alone made this experience even better.

4. Atmosphere

The restaurant had an upbeat vibe and everyone who worked there seemed to genuinely love their job and care about the environment they provided for you during your dining experience. It gave us all of the New Orleans vibes we love in without even having to leave Baton Rouge.

This is the time to go check out the Ruby Slipper especially with the amazing specials they are running, you won’t regret it! Let us know in the comments if you’ve been recently and what are your favorite items to order off the menu!

Michelle, and her wonderful husband Michael, moved to Baton Rouge from Houma, 3 years ago to help launch Anchor Chapel. Though it's been 3 years, there's a 99.9% chance she'll still get lost unless she uses the GPS on her phone. They are the parents to a spunky, Disney loving 2-year-old named Maverick. She graduated from Nicholls State University and earned her degree in Mass Communication with a concentration in Public Relations. She has since then has decided to trade that in for a life of a working stay at home mom. She loves all things Jesus, Lush, and Disney!
