That said, as Baton Rouge moms we couldn't be more excited about taking the summer reading assignments off of our personal to do lists.  End The Summer Reading Battles Summer Reading Assignments? Done. You've heard us rave about Studyville before. When Studyville opened in summer 2020, we shared all of the scoop about why Baton Rouge moms should have this tutoring and educational service on speed dial. Sometimes our kids need additional help with their school work, and as busy working moms we just don't have the time (or, let's face it, know how) to assist our children with their school work. A revolutionary teen work space, Studyville is located in Perkins Rowe to...
Often life throws us curveballs. We planned one way and it ended another. The decision was made but we changed our minds. Instead of a period, life throws a big question mark our way. Recently I was given a big question mark in a place I thought for sure was a period. This got me wondering. How do we adjust to a situation where we simply have no control? On the plus side a period means we know for sure, it’s finite. Albeit good or bad, it’s definite. A question mark is unknown; however, it leaves in its wake possibility. Perhaps the end result will be great or it may be a great big failure. I’ve decided I like periods....
Preparing for a Hurricane With Kids Is your family ready to pick up and go if there's a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico? Do you have a hurricane evacuation plan? Preparing for a hurricane with kids can be overwhelming, which is why it's best to get your storm plans ready when things are calm. Family Hurricane Plan :: Make a Binder Every year in advance of hurricane season I update our family binder with insurance info / phone numbers /...
On Monday May 17th, our brand new home flooded. Just a few inches, but enough to require major repairs. I woke up to the puddles in my house and immediately just thought what a pain this is.Over two and a half weeks later, I sit here feeling more blessed than ever from this entire experience. It taught me how to accept help.We woke Tuesday morning to digest all of the damage that happened. We slowly realized the baseboards needed to be pulled and the sheetrock needed cutting. I was there, with my baby asleep in my arms, listening to my husband work alone. My phone had 26 unread messages - all offers of help, prayers, supplies, food, etc. and...
I’m happy to shout to the rooftops that I don’t have a picky eater (so far). It’s convenient to not make a separate “kid’s meal” at home. It’s better for my grocery budget to not have to buy so many different things. It’s easier to eat out when we can split an entrée. She is more willing to try new things when we go to a restaurant or someone’s house to eat. This is what works for us. I had to do a great deal of trial and error to get here. Feel free to take, tweak, and reject any of the following. The worst thing you can do is not try! The “stranger” the main dish is, the more...
