Hola! Happy Cinco de Mayo! Cinco de Mayo celebrates the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican war on May 5, 1862. It is the perfect occasion to educate and celebrate Mexican culture with your children. Below are some super quick recipes and kid-friendly activities to help celebrate the day. Food I don’t know about you, but I could eat Mexican food every day without getting tired of it! Holy Guacamole. Make some homemade guacamole as a quick appetizer. Guacamole is super easy to make and something your children can help prepare. Grab two or three ripe avocados, salt, fresh limes, tomatoes, and an onion. While you dice up the tomatoes and onions, have your children...
Every year on April 22nd we celebrate Earth Day. According to Earthday.org, we need to act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably). It’s going to take all of us. All in. Businesses, governments, and citizens — everyone accounted for, and everyone accountable. A partnership for the planet. The theme for this year is “Invest in Our Planet”, and what better way to do that than to teach your children to appreciate nature and protect the planet with the following simple Earth Day activities: Soak up some sun with a simple scavenger hunt. Celebrate Earth Day this year by getting outside, enjoying some sunshine, and exploring nature. Use this free printable for an Earth Day scavenger hunt with your children. For older children, simply add a time limit...
I know that Easter is usually all about chocolate bunnies and lots of candy, but I have been trying to limit sugar and dyes for my kids recently because I have noticed a huge change in behavior with one child doing so. They have so many styles and colors and they are usually $5 and under! ...
I love the Easter season. Finding little treasures for my kid’s Easter baskets, participating in egg hunts, picking out pastel-colored dresses and white sandals, and thinking about the perfect Easter Sunday meals all bring me a lot of joy. The crawfish boils, the azaleas blooming, the mostly (sans Tornados!!) perfect weather, it’s just a happy season all around. But beyond all of these external things to enjoy, there is something internal heightened in me as we prepare to celebrate Easter: refocusing my mind and heart of the reality of life in Jesus, His presence in my life, and enjoying friendship with Him. All of this is made possible because of the life, death, and resurrection of the Son of...
Remember back when you were little and Valentine’s Day was simpler and didn’t come with any pressure? Back when Valentine’s Day was just about candy and passing out your favorite cartoon character valentines with cutesy sayings to your classmates. You probably made construction paper heart cards in class or received a box of candy and a card from your parents. Somehow over the years, the day has turned into more of a Christmas 2.0 Instead of feeling the pressure to buy yet another stuffed animal or Valentine’s Day trinket at the store, I try to keep it simple and low-key. I love doing simple, cute Valentine’s Day activities with my children. Below is my list of super-easy ideas to do...
