South Louisiana, specifically Baton Rouge (and surrounding areas) and Lafayette, have been devastated by the recent flooding. In an effort to share the most up to date information for our Red Stick Mom Blog readers, we’ve compiled this list of resources and information to help Louisiana flood victims. We’ll keep it as updated as possible in the coming days – please leave a comment if you know of any drop off or donation opportunities that are missing. Many families in South Louisiana have lost absolutely everything, and the need for help and service will last for a while. All contributions of all sizes will make a positive impact on those who are suffering right now. Note :: if you are...
You've covered every recipe tagged as "easy" or "quick" on Pinterest and asked the internet world for suggestions with the select list of items you already have on hand in the pantry. Maybe it's late in the afternoon and you haven't been to the grocery in days. Or perhaps you just want to pretend your kitchen is always this clean... "Let's go out for dinner!" you say. Visit one of these restaurants around town that offer kids eat free nights or kids specials! We update this post as needed. Thank you for your comments and suggestions. Monday BRQ Seafood & Barbecue :: Kids eat free, one per adult entrée or BBQ platter Burger smith :: Kids eat free, one per adult entrée Cowboy Chicken :: Kids 10 and under eat free after 4:00pm, one...
Sometimes Mom and Dad just need a date night! But finding a sitter can be difficult and expensive. Enter the beauty of Parents' Night Out (PNO) programs. Churches and local businesses put on a fun evening for kids (and often feed them, too) so that kids actually want to go to PNO, and parents get to enjoy a childfree night out on the town. To help make it easier for you to plan your next date night, I've put together this list of organizations in the Baton Rouge area that offer Parents' Night Out programs. Baton Rouge David Vincent's Martial Arts - This martial arts studio hosts themed PNOs and pizza parties, such as "Nerf Gun Battles," "Jedi Lightsaber Training," and...
Baton Rouge and traffic go together like peanut butter and jelly. Everyone in the Red Stick is used to "stuck in traffic" as an acceptable excuse for tardiness. So next time you're stuck waiting through the same light for the 5th time, enjoy this post. We know you can relate.
I recently spent a 'First Sunday' checking out the Louisiana Art & Science Museum with our family and some friends. It was the perfect opportunity to experience the museum for the first time since I wasn't sure how much my son would participate (He's only one!). Every 'First Sunday' of the month the Louisiana Art & Science Museum, U.S.S. Kidd, and LSU Museum of Art provide free and reduced price admission to their facilities. We all had a blast that day and it got me thinking of other activities I can take us to experience throughout downtown Baton Rouge. Even if you don't make it on a 'First Sunday', many of the activities are free or reasonably priced -...
If you saw yesterday's post, then maybe you were inspired to declutter...especially before the influx of gifts this holiday season. Simplifying and "getting rid of stuff" is not always the easiest process, but focusing on the end goals help: a more organized home, sending your things to be used and enjoyed by someone else, or maybe even making some extra cash. This is your guide for what to do with all the STUFF right here in Baton Rouge. If you're not sure where to start with a purge, start small. Look for clothes that no longer fit and toys that aren't age appropriate or don't see much play time.  It's ok if you aren't quite ready to get rid of...
Carnival time is here, which means parade season is upon us!  We've compiled a list of family-friendly parades in and around the Greater Baton Rouge area, so you don't miss a thing!  They are listed in order of appearance, beginning Friday, February 6th and running through Saturday, March 14th. Laissez les bons temps rouler! (And follow us on Facebook to keep up with other family-friendly events in the Baton Rouge area!) 1) Krewe of Artemis - Friday, February 6 :: 7PM, The Krewe of Artemis was founded in 2001 with the vision of bringing the Mardi Gras spirit and tradition to the Baton Rouge community with a female twist. The all-female Krewe made its parade debut in Baton Rouge in 2003 and has...
Wow! We can't believe how much this blog has grown and changed over the past 10 months! With the recent addition of five new contributors, we thought it was the perfect time to get some new pictures taken and give the site and our Facebook page a fresh, new look. We are SO glad we worked with Tara Marie Photography to capture these awesome shots and wanted to be sure to show our thanks through this photo update. Tara was absolutely incredible to work with.  She found a way to capture 15 crazy-busy, end-of-the-day tired mommas so beautifully and in the best light.  We love that we were able to represent our team here at Red Stick Moms Blog in...
