I am a Warrior!

Hello, heart patient. What are you doing in a Warrior Dash?! Has your cardiologist given you clearance for a 5K?!? Yes!! (That's me in the front.) It’s been almost four years since my aortic dissection, ( you can read about my story here www.myhearthasastory.wordpress.com) and almost a year since my last 5K. I’m still tired most days, but upcoming events seem to give me a boost of energy. You know how planning your vacation can be just a fun as the actual trip? I want to safely live life to the fullest. Tomorrow isn’t promised to any of us, but I am reminded of that every day when I see the open-heart surgery scar on my chest in the mirror. My doctor has...
Do you know how to perform CPR on your infant or child? You should! If something goes wrong, the time between when you dialed 911 and when EMS arrives is a critical window. Those three to five minutes can be the difference between life and death. Bystander CPR can double and even triple someone’s chance for survival. That is why Red Stick Moms Blog, The American Heart Association, and Baton Rouge General Medical Center are ready to help you learn those lifesaving skills at “Mom School”. This FREE “mom friendly” event will teach you how to perform infant and child CPR. We know moms are busy, so as a special treat we have something just for you. Baton Rouge General...
We are in a very long process of remodeling our house, so sticking to our budget is very important. A Disney vacation with the kids was not in the budget. Even a weekend trip to the beach was not in the budget. But momma needed a vacation to end the summer! I just wanted some time devoted to having fun with my family. So Baton Rouge here we come! My hubby took a few days off work so he could join us. Day 1: Our first day began at the movies. I took the kids to the $1 movie to see Mr. Peabody and Sherman. Cute, cute movie for all ages. We had a picnic by the fountain and visited Barnes...
Disclosure: This evening was graciously sponsored by Painting and Pinot with delicious food provided by Street Breads. As moms, we are SO busy painting on our own "canvases" of  the life we are building. Sometimes, it becomes a challenge to put daily life on hold to have a little fun. At Red Stick Moms Blog, we strive to bring you authentic and meaningful content that is relatable. We are all in the midst of different seasons and creating our masterpieces…. but last week we decided to throw caution to the wind and pick up a real paint brush. Our team was given the opportunity to enjoy a night out to bond, laugh and paint with Painting and Pinot. Some of us had experienced doing this...
Disclosure: Our amazing Mom Prom: “Shake It Off” was held at the beautiful East Baton Rouge Parish Main Library. This evening wouldn’t have been such a success without our wonderful community sponsors: Kismet Cosmetics, The Massage Emporium, Air Blow Dry Bar, Whole Foods, Indie Plate, Frankie’s Dawg House, Cupcake Allie, Hanley’s, Cake Jewels and Leblanc’s Food Stores. On Friday, May 15th, the mood for the evening was set perfectly to the backdrop of the best music, indulgent services, and delicious food. A light rain was trickling but that didn’t stop our moms from looking fabulous and having a blast dancing the night away. This night was all about shaking off the stress, having a blast with girlfriends, and making some...
