Mom Guilt Is Real!

Recently, my son received a very special award at school. My husband and I were very proud when we were notified about the award. We received an e-mail that stated the date and time of the program, which was five days away. After reading the e-mail I instantly became anxious because I had a schedule conflict. I was scheduled to be out of town for a work meeting on the same day of the program, and there was no way that I could make both. Instant “mom guilt!” I became very anxious because I pride myself in being able to balance the life of a working mom, and I had never been faced with choosing work over my son. I...
Once the kids go down on a Friday or Saturday night, my husband and I pull out the board games. We used to gravitate towards cards games like Canasta or old-school video games like Dr. Mario, but we recently acquired two games that have us looking forward to date nights in rather than out. These board games aren’t the usual suspects like Monopoly or Scrabble though, so if you are looking for new games to add into the mix, keep reading! Our two go-to games allow us to either play with each other or against. This is great because we are able to be competitive or work as a team depending on our moods. So once the kids are soundly sleeping, a...
When my son was diagnosed with food allergies several years ago, besides figuring out the day to day logistics, holidays were next on my mind. What about Christmas, Halloween and Easter? I love celebrating holidays big, and thankfully with a few tricks we can celebrate without allergies putting a dent in our fun. Easter turned out to be a pretty easy one to manage, and it's also one of our favorite holidays! Fill eggs and Easter baskets with springtime, non-food items:  Stickers, tattoos, small toys, and animal-shaped erasers are all easy ways to fill Easter eggs. We like to fill Easter baskets with bubbles and sidewalk chalk to play with Easter afternoon. Coloring books and art supplies are popular too, and...
With Easter quickly approaching, the kids are looking for the next Easter egg hunt. After doing the same eggs hunts year after year, your children may be ready for a different type of egg hunt. And let’s be real, parents may also be tired of hiding the same eggs under the same bush every year. Here is a list of ideas to add a twist to the traditional egg hunt: Glow in the Dark Egg Hunt Instead of stuffing eggs with jelly beans, stick a few glow sticks in each egg for a light up twist. Stores now sell mini glow sticks specifically for eggs, but the regular glow bracelets will also work. When it gets dark, scatter a few eggs...
Until recently, I worked full-time in a traditional office setting. Every morning, I followed the same routine. I woke up at 4:30AM to begin the mad dash of getting myself and the kids ready to leave the house by 6:20AM. I struggled to keep my sanity as I dropped one child to daycare and two others to elementary school so that I could make it to work for 7AM. The stressful mornings weren’t the half of it. After enduring eight stressful and demanding hours at work, I raced back to school to pick up children before the carpool cut off. Once we finally made it home after after-school activities, we rushed through dinner and homework in an attempt to...
