Come explore the past through 4,000 years of recipes! From Babylon, circa 1740 BC, all the way to 20th century U.S.A, immerse yourself in cultures and cuisine! Join us this spring in reading our 2024 One Book One Community selection, Max Miller’s Tasting History!  The 18th annual One Book One Community initiative will highlight Miller’s book as well as many other culinary and historical programs for all ages throughout the Library system.

It all begins with a FREE Kickoff Party for the whole family on Friday, March 8, 5-7 p.m., at the Main Library at Goodwood, featuring live music by RJ & Zydeco Smoove; delicious food by Odom’s Kitchen; the Edible Book Festival; children’s activities; community organizations and more!

The six-week celebration will culminate with an engaging conversation with popular YouTube personality and Tasting History author Max Miller at the Main Library at Goodwood on Saturday, April 20th at 10 a.m.

Town of Sorrento Easter Egg Hunt

The Town of Sorrento will hold our annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 9th from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the Sorrento Community Center. In addition to the egg hunt, we will have games, crafts, and inflatables! The Sorrento Fire Department will be serving free hot dogs during the event! Bring your family out and pass a good time!

Who wants to spend spring break with the animals? This zoo camp is one you won’t want to miss. Campers will get up close and personal with the animals, play seasonal games, make crafts, and get a tour through the zoo!

Spring Break Camp Sunshine

BREC offers holiday camps, which are perfect for school vacations, and filled with friends and fun activities. This holiday camp follows the local school schedules for the City of Baker, the City of Central, East Baton Rouge Parish Schools, and the City of Zachary. Our Camp Sunshine program offers a fun-filled, holiday-themed recreational curriculum for children with cognitive and developmental disabilities to include arts and crafts, passive and active games, socialization with peers, and a field trip. Must have 5 campers registered for the camp to take place.

Conservation Nature Explores Spring Camp

“April showers… bring may flowers,” but does it hold true for Louisiana? This spring we will explore everything water and how it affects our ecosystems. How are rivers formed? Why do amphibians love this time of spring? Why do plants crave water so much? Come join us as we explore water, weather, flowers, and so much more!

Equestrian Riding Camp

Holiday Riding Camp will teach your child basic riding skills, horsemanship, horse care, and stable management, in addition to fun crafts and friendship, while enjoying the beautiful spring weather outdoors. This one-day camp will focus on either English or Western riding in a smaller, more concentrated environment, taught by an instructor specializing in the chosen discipline. All campers will have their own horse, and ride for a total of 1-2 hours per day.

Space Exploration Camp

Campers will learn about the highlights from the American Space Program with interactive demonstrations, hands-on activities and fun games. Each session of the camp will have a unique theme, as well as building a chemical rocket and working on science inquiries.

Calling all Junior Adventurers! Looking for a fun adventure for your kids to enjoy during their Spring Break? Look no further than our BREC-Xpeditions. Our experienced staff will lead participants on outdoor adventures. Exact field trip locations will be weather dependent.
