Happy 13th Birthday! :: Teenage Birthday Party Ideas

With little children, themed cupcakes, balloons, and party favors are all it takes to impress your little one for their birthday party. Add in a bounce house and you will be a superhero in the eyes of your child. But, when you reach the tween and teen years, those things just aren’t going to cut it anymore. My oldest is turning 13 in August, and if you are like me, your party suggestions are met with a dramatic sign and eye roll.

Here are six party ideas that received a smile and thumbs up from my daughter.

Lights, Camera, Action! Move the viewing party outside with a backyard movie night. Put up some string lights, pop some popcorn, and lay out some cozy blankets and overstuffed pillows, and boom, you have your very own outdoor cinema. Need an outdoor projector, here is one of the many affordable options on Amazon.

Tie-Dye. A tie-dye party is such a fun and easy theme. Grab several tables and lay down a tarp in the backyard. White t-shirts, pillowcases, towels, hair scrunches, and/or socks are all great options to tie dye. The children can try out different dying techniques to make different patterns. Serve up a sweet tooth charcuterie board and colorful cupcakes.

The Wheels on the Bus. Who doesn’t like being a passenger princess, being chauffeured around? Renting a party bus allows your teenager and their friends to be driven around while belting out Taylor Swift and other favorite songs at the top of their lungs. Joy riding around town, stopping for selfies, lunch, and some shopping.

We Escaped! You have only one hour and one goal – to escape before time runs out. Work together as a team to beat the clock with logic and critical thinking to find concealed passages, crack puzzles and codes, and uncover hidden secrets to help you escape in time. The 13th Gate offers interactive entertainment with Louisiana’s ultimate escape games.

Fore! Top Golf offers a hassle-free teen party package for up to 12 guests. Two hours of unlimited play on the first level and a special teen lunch menu. TopGolf is the perfect place to host an awesome party!

Game on! Teens can experience the latest Virtual Reality games, their own teen menu, bowling, laser tag, and other activities at Main Event. The Ultimate Gamer and Teen All-Access packages are the perfect way to let them have fun their way.

These ideas are only a few of the many themes out there for teenagers. No matter what you end up deciding, a big blowout or a small shindig, the most important thing is to make sure your teenager knows how much they deserve to be celebrated!
