You’ve heard it before; it’s so important for moms to take some “me time.” That can be hard with small kids who rely on you for a majority of their needs. You may get lucky with a few date nights or girls nights here and there, but why not have “me time” more often? I like to take just a short amount of time on most nights after the kids go to sleep to do something for myself that I enjoy. Here is my list of short, relaxing things to do!
Take a bubble bath
Calming epsom salt, bubble bath, fizzy bath bombs, exfoliation scrub – all the things. Laid back with the soothing aromas, as the stress of the day washes off. I’m not rushed and don’t have little people following me everywhere.
Read a magazine
Usually done while taking a bath. I don’t usually have much time to read anything longer than a Facebook post or news headline with kids running around. Parents and Real Simple are my top two.
Paint my nails
I realize this may not be relaxing for some, but I enjoy doing my own. When the kids don’t need sticky hands wipes or juice poured every five minutes, I can take the time to do 1-2 coats and a top clear coat, with as much drying time in between as I want! The insta-dry kind is my favorite.
Catch up on or watch reruns of Fixer Upper
This is my chance to take in every possible detail of an episode instead of it acting solely as background noise or catch up on those very last season episodes that I am savoring. I need to see every shiplapped wall, antique island, and barnyard door. Joanna’s home staging gets me dreaming of the next project or repurposing to do in my own home. Yes, I think I do like marble countertops. And suddenly, I want a metal stenciled sign.
Watch YouTube videos
Every now and then I’ll watch random YouTube videos before going to bed. Anything with relaxing music, monotonous movements or soothing voices will hold my attention and make me drowsy. I’ve watched Japanese baking tutorials and hair stylist videos set to music. Sometimes I watch this girl I don’t know give a detailed look at Thirty-One bags and even the Disney Toy Collector (the way they both talk put me to sleep). The other day I watched a video a friend posted on Facebook of a baby’s face being massaged. I know, it’s weird but oddly relaxing.
