The word “brave” looks different in the life of every person. For me it looks like a mom living with severe anxiety. Balancing multiple health diagnoses all while trying to be everything to my kids, family, and friends. Some days feel impossible and others feel like giant victories. The little tasks in life can feel like climbing a huge mountain. For this reason I have made it my mission to help other women and moms like me. It is my heart’s desire to see women live their “brave.”
I founded the Be Brave organization as a non-profit two years ago. In those two years I have shared my personal journey with mental illness with thousands of women around the country. I have had the honor of serving hundreds locally through our monthly support group called Brave Chat. During these group meetings women have a chance to give and receive support from other women in the Baton Rouge community who also deal with mental health and life challenges. It’s a time to laugh, cry, and encourage each other. We also host events periodically to spread awareness about mental illness and how it affects women and their families. It is our goal to erase the stigma attached to this real and present disease. The next leg of this journey will involve providing funding for women in the Baton Rouge community who are in need of professional care from mental health providers.
Here’s how you can help! On July 2nd at 6pm, we will host an event open to the public at Charming Charlie’s in Perkins Rowe. Charming Charlie’s is partnering with Be Brave and all proceeds will go toward funding mental health programs. Come out and enjoy a time of shopping and socializing. We will also provide free drinks and sweet treats, plus you will have a chance to win an awesome piece from Mimosa Handcrafted.
Be Brave is not just an organization; it’s a community of women creating a safe space to have fun, be real and free. We would love to see you get involved — moms helping other moms Be Brave!
