BREC Art offers Spring Art Programs for Children & Adults
Who doesn’t love art? This spring BREC is offering a variety of art classes, programs and camps to satisfy creatives of all ages!
Start your Spring off by gaining a better understanding of color, form and expression with Portrait Painting in Oils at the Baton Rouge Gallery, a BREC facility, 1515 Dalrymple Dr. In this four-week portrait painting workshop for adults 17 and older, participants will learn and apply a variety of techniques ranging from old masters to contemporary, and make several paintings from a live model. Classes will be held 6-9 p.m. on four consecutive Tuesdays, beginning March 14 with an introduction lecture, demo and oil sketching. Beginners are welcome. The cost for the full course, including all materials, is $200.
In April, join the path to figure drawing success with BREC Art’s Beginning Figure Drawing course lead by longtime art instructor and artist, Steve Schmidt. Topics will include learning how to see, look and measure; scaling; gesturing; proper tool utilization and setting up a scene and viewing the model. Tips, hints and tricks abound. No previous drawing experience is needed. The classes will be held Mondays and Wednesdays in April from 7-9 pm at the Baton Rouge Gallery, a BREC facility. This course is for adults 18 and older and will be $200, including all materials.
For the kids that love to create, BREC is offering both Spring and Summer art camps. Spring Holiday Art Camp will be held April 18-21, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at BREC’s Womack Park, 6201 Florida Blvd. Campers will explore all mediums,
The increasingly popular, Aspiring Artists Summer Camp held May 29-Aug. 4, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at BREC’s Womack Park, 6201 Florida Blvd., gives campers the opportunity to attend week-long sessions that offer hands-on creative art projects under the direction of an experienced camp director and counselors. Camps focus on mastering the basics of art such as color theory, principles of design (line, texture, shape and form) and studying famous and infamous artists alike. Summer camp registration begins March 25 at brec.org/summercamp.
Children ages 7-14 can also get a little wild by spending two Saturday mornings creating savage art utilizing multiple mediums with an Untamed Art class at the Baton Rouge Gallery, a BREC facility April 8 and 15 from 9:30 am-noon. Classes include all materials and are $25 for one or $40 for both.
