Mardi Gras: Four Reasons You Should Let the Good Times Roll in Houma, Louisiana

The perfect family-friendly Mardi Gras experience is right down the road in Houma, Louisiana. While New Orleans might be on your mind regarding Mardi Gras parades, you can’t sleep on what Houma offers during Carnival time.

Here are four reasons to catch a parade in Houma this year:

Kid Friendly. All the Houma krewes cater to the little ones. There is never any shortage of throws tossed to children. No one leaves empty handed. Bags full of stuffed animals, noisemakers, light-up toys, and tons of beads!

No 12-hour campout required. There are several spots along the parade route to catch the parade without having to claim it several hours in advance. The parades start at the Southland Mall, a great large area to catch the parade. In addition, parking is free.

Various Krewe-sponsored parades. During the days leading up to Fat Tuesday, multiple parades are held at various times (midday, late afternoon, and evening). Come enjoy brightly colored hand-painted floats with lights, themed costumes, and music from local school bands and dance teams.

No ladders required. These parades are more of parking your truck and watching from the truck bed. Many families have flatbed trailers along the route. It is more like a giant tailgate with great food and free parking.

You won’t find a more family-friendly, good carnival time than you will at the Houma Mardi Gras parades.

Happy Mardi Gras!
