There are three types of married women:
- My wedding dress is cleaned, preserved, boxed, and stored so my daughter can one day wear it in her wedding—if she wants.
- SOLD. I knew I was never wearing it again. I have no need for it. Why not make a buck or two? It’s a beautiful dress!
- The stuck …. I still have my dress, but I don’t know why. I don’t need it, but I haven’t done anything with it.
Do you fit in to any of the those categories? I’ve been in number 3 for almost twelve years! When my daughter was seven months old we did a mini session of her sitting in my dress. It was adorable! And I told myself I’d do it every year on our anniversary…but I didn’t. The dress got shoved in the back of a closet and forgotten, well as forgotten as your favorite dress can be.
So what are we to do with these dresses we loved?! The dress that we wore when we pledged a life together. If you have a daughter, I highly suggest one of these shoots! It was fun and beautiful! But maybe you don’t have daughters, or maybe you have no desire to set up a photo shoot, but you do want your dress to do something other than sit in a closet.
Born With Angel Wings is a fantastic company that takes wedding gowns, breaks them down, and creates beautiful gowns and suits for sweet babies that are lost all too soon. Not only is this company amazing, they also hold workshops so that you (& a group of friends) could help! You can cut the patterns, sew, or learn to break down a dress! You don’t even have to have a group, you can sign on as a volunteer!
Fine & Dandy is a local business that has someone that uses old clothes to make memory bears. How adorable would a teddy bear made from your dress be? How much more compact?!
I had a friend who had her dress made into a christening gown! I mean, what?!? How precious and what a treasured heirloom! Find a seamstress you trust and see what magic she works!
