Nostalgia and Girl Power :: Why You Should Attend a Baton Rouge's Mrs. Roper Romp

The Mrs. Roper Romp is a cultural phenomenon that has been taking off in most major cities across the states. It started as a way to raise money for local charities and for like-minded groups to let loose and have a little fun while embracing the uniqueness of this beloved character. This event is a way for women to support other women wherever they are in life and to support their community.

Baton Rouge’s Inaugural Mrs. Roper Romp

Baton Rouge celebrated its first Mrs. Roper Romp on July 13, 2024, at Bin 77. Money was raised for “Opi-Earth,” a small rehab whose mission is to save and release baby orphaned or injured Mammals such as bats and possums.

More than 60 Kaftan-wearing Mrs. Ropers filled Bin 77 with laughter and dancing wearing chunky jewelry, vintage jeweled purses and 1970’s glam sunglasses. There were plenty of hugs from friends, both old and new. The group gathered as they ate and drank and engaged in conversation. Bin 77 even had a “Mrs. Roper” specialty drink on the menu for the event.

Homemade personal fans sporting sayings, such as “Meet me at the Regal Beagle,” “We’ve Been Expecting You” and other sayings from the once popular sitcom, were given at the entrance to the attendees. There were door prizes given out throughout the event, including sunglasses and Mrs. Roper paintings. There was even a “Best Mrs. Roper” Contest where the Mrs. Ropers strutted their stuff down the short hallway to be judged. The winner received a special crown and flower bouquet.

“Come and Knock on Our Door — We’ve Been Expecting You”

Another “Mrs. Roper Romp” is being planned for October 5th set to happen in Downtown Baton Rouge. You can join in the fun by joining the private group “Mrs. Ropers Romp Baton Rouge” on Facebook. There are currently 215 members in the group (Mr. Roper’s are also welcome) and there will be another chance to support a local charity, make new friends and join in the fun. So, get your kaftans ready and your short spunky curly wig if desired (wigs optional) and deck yourself out to attend a one-of-a-kind event that will definitely live on in your memory bank.
