I absolutely love to be outdoors! Whenever I have a free moment sans kids, I like to take advantage of the chance to run off the frustrations I face each day as a single, stay-at-home, homeschooling momma -because there are many. The free time to think, breathe, enjoy peace and quiet, get fresh air and sunshine, as well as get your blood pumping…it just makes you feel good about yourself! I don’t think I ever appreciated Baton Rouge until I began running. I lived in Houston as a child (one of the many places I have lived) and have always wanted to get back to a “big city”. I associated “downtowns” with high-rise offices and a beautiful skyline.
I just couldn’t really appreciate what I saw of our downtown from afar, but the beauty of Baton Rouge lies hidden along the streets of our downtown: the colors, the styles, the history. It will capture your soul better than any sky-scraper ever could.
There are plenty of places to run in Baton Rouge, but downtown has quickly become my favorite! I really enjoy the hills, the stairs, the different terrains, as well as all of the beautiful architecture to look at along the way. I never truly realized how beautiful our downtown is! I try to run several times a week, and never get bored of the sites. In fact, I often stop to take pictures along the way. With gorgeous weather in the not-so-distant future, check out the local running clubs- like Happy’s Running Club– or just head out on your own (or with a running partner and a camera)! You can take advantage of free live concerts, First Sunday’s of the month when museum admissions are free, and even run through the set of movies being filmed (I may actually be seen in a few). If you get hungry, you don’t have to worry about being sweaty, just pull up a chair at an outdoor table in one of many wonderful restaurants or even grab a fresh snack from the farmer’s market. Cool off with a run through the fountains or grab a shady seat in North Boulevard Town Square. You really don’t want to miss the beauty our downtown has to offer!
Seriously, it is beautiful…
Great work Krista! I loved it!
Thanks, Cyndy! It was a fun one to write! The more I explore BR the less I want to leave and the more I grow to love it!
