When TV saved the day ... I honestly never thought I would say that. We own a TV, but it consists of a whopping 10 channels thanks to rabbit ears and there is no remote. It's one step up from the tube TV of the 90's. Connecting it to Netflix is really the only function, and that happens occasionally at best. Sure we could buy a nicer one (or at least a remote) and pay for cable, but it serves our lifestyle as is. After long work hours inside, we usually spend as much time outside as possible when we're home. Our two-year-old is in love with trains, so how could we not let him watch episodes of Chuggington and...

No Mom Tribe Here

The “Mom Tribe." I don’t know what a mom tribe is, but I have my guesses. I am guessing it’s a group of moms who have a lot in common and “get” each other. That would be my best guess. I don’t have a “tribe.” Everything on the Internet tells me that I need one. I just don’t think they are for me. As far back as I can remember I have been one who just plays by herself. I have always had just a few friends, actually I’ve had more acquaintances than friends, and that has been perfect for me. Don’t get me wrong, I am a GOOD friend. I try to be a good listener and be supportive....
I'm up late and writing. I've been thinking about contentment quite a bit recently. Is this something I'm supposed to have? Ever? Or is it something I'm supposed to strive for? By the mere definition, can you strive for it? I mean, it sounds so nice - "Peaceful Happiness." "Satisfaction." Bliss. I feel pretty guilty that for the most part, I've been no good at this. My husband brought the word to my attention many years ago. We were discussing what it meant to be happy. We each had our own definitions, and I was a little shocked that ours were so different. What it boiled down to is that I really didn't know. By that, I mean that I...
Soda, pop, cola and Coke; whatever you call them soft drinks have become a main stream beverage in our country and are readily accessible to quench our thirst at check out lines EVERYWHERE! Confession: I'm a self proclaimed former diet soda addict. Growing up in the land of potluck dinners and southern barbecues two-liter beverages were ever present at all meals. Believe me, as a child and well into adulthood I drank my fair share of soda (and other sugar laden beverages). I myself gave up the addictive soda drinking habit many, many years ago when, with a little self-guided research, discovered I was having some nasty side effects when I didn't get my daily dose of soda. In my...
Having postpartum depression (PPD) is hard. I had it after the birth of both of my sons, and I still live with daily depression. And I'm not alone. According to the website Postpartum Progress, between 10 to 15% of women will experience a postpartum mood disorder, whether that be PPD, postpartum anxiety, postpartum OCD or postpartum psychosis. That's a lot of struggling mamas! Through my journey with PPD, and by connecting with other moms who are afflicted, I've come to realize that there are still so many misconceptions about what PPD is and how it manifests. So I reached out to my friends, and together we compiled this list of 5 things moms with PPD need you to know. 1. Yes, we...
