Getting Your Baby To Sleep Well {Little Z’s Sleep Consulting}
You’re tired. Like really, really tired. Your baby wakes up 4, 5, 10 times a night. You put the baby down for a nap. Twenty minutes later, baby is awake again. Baby seems to always fuss. And once you get him in his carseat, he seems to fall right asleep. Of course. You’re just wondering what’s going on and why he won’t sleep! Sound familiar?
That was me. Tired, frustrated, and did I mention tired? Funny thing is, I thought I had the baby thing down. I was on kid #3. I thought I knew it all. I’d been through it all. But baby #3 threw me for a loop.
Baby #3 didn’t like to sleep alone and didn’t like to nap. With two other kids to care for, a business to run, and a household to manage, I knew I needed help. I was desperate for sleep and a routine that my baby could happily follow. I just didn’t know where to start or what exactly would be best for baby. Thankfully, Rebecca Campbell, a Certified Sleep Sense Consultant reached out and offered her services. I couldn’t wait to learn more!
As a mom of three, I knew how important sleep was for me and my kids. Rebecca’s goal was to have baby sleeping peacefully and in a healthy routine by the end of 10 days. Now, that, I could go for! A quick, introductory phone call helped me realize Rebecca’s passion for helping tired mommas and for baby’s healthy sleep. She was instantly encouraging, and we set up an in-person meeting for that week. I also completed a detailed questionnaire to help her get to know our situation.
The in-home meeting that week with Rebecca was wonderful. Not only was she able to meet baby and observe his sleep environment, but we were able to discuss every detail of her personalized plan for baby. I was worried this was going to be a “let baby cry for 45 minutes and then he’ll sleep…end of story” but it was NOT AT ALL! Rebecca had taken my preference for very little crying, baby’s age/weight, and our specific circumstances into account to develop our personalized plan. It was so comforting to know that she supported my ideas while still aligning with her research-backed sleep program. After her hour visit, I was left with a detailed folder of info, tips, and her cell number!
Over the next few days, I followed her plan. I was able to text with her at baby’s bedtime if I felt I needed the extra support or had questions. She also checked in with phone calls and emails over the 10-day period. It was so nice having my sleep expert just a phone call or email away, knowing she was someone who knew me and my baby. She was always there to offer great advice and encouragement.
Now because our sleep plan was created specifically for our family and our goals, I won’t be sharing every detail. I can tell you, though, that within the first 5 days of the program, baby went from 20-minute naps to consistent, 2-hour naps with ease! Even I couldn’t believe this was the same baby. By the end of the 10-day program, baby’s sleep had improved so drastically that baby and I were finally getting the rest we needed. Even a few weeks later, as I write this, baby is an independent and very happy sleeper. And I’m one very happy momma.
