Summer’s End Night Hike and Campfire
Say goodbye to summer and kick off the school year with BREC Conservation’s Summer’s End Night Hike and Campfire!
This exciting program begins with an adventurous night hike with a BREC naturalist learning about local ecology and nocturnal animals. Your family will be guided through a beautiful BREC park by our experts where you’ll discover together all that nature has hidden in your backyard. Kids will learn through hands-on activities and games, taking learning to the next level.
After the hike, kids and parents will relax under the stars and gather around the campfire. You’ll need a little rest after that trek! Families will then roast marshmallows together while our naturalists tell stories of local folklore. So be sure to bring your own favorite story to tell!
There are two opportunities for you to get in on the outdoor adventure action. The first night hike will take place September 15 at Frenchtown Road Conservation Area, near Central. The second hike takes place just a week later on September 22 at Zachary Community Park. Both hikes run from 7-9 p.m., just in time for the heat to subside! And for just $5 per person, you can’t find a better option for family Friday night fun!
The hike and campfire are designed for adventurers ages 8 and older, but younger children are welcome to join the rest of the family. Children just must be accompanied by an adult and able to complete a 2.5-mile hike in the dark without a light.
Registration is required by noon the day of the event, so be sure to sign up early to reserve your spot. Groups are always welcome to attend, but please give as much advanced notice as possible so that BREC staff can accommodate you! To register your family for the night hike adventure, simply go to brec.org/webtrac and purchase a ticket through the “ticket” button. There’s no need to bring a receipt with you to the event, just bring your family and your sense of adventure! So come enjoy this great way to get the family out in nature as the summer heat subsides!
