You guys!! How many of you use the app Waze to navigate around traffic or for road trips?
We use Waze all the time! ALL THE TIME. My kids get absolutely giddy when we get to choose new voices to navigate our trips. We’ve had Cookie Monster, Woody, Neil Patrick Harris, FIFA Announcers, Santa, and so many more! Every time we’ve changed our navigation voice, I’ve seen this “Add a voice” option. And every time, I think, How fun would it be to let the kids narrate our drives?! Yet I never followed through, until a few weeks ago! Can I tell you how absolutely THRILLED they were to do this? They are just beside themselves when their particular instruction comes across the speakers of the car.
How do I do this?!? I hear you! I hear you! Here’s the basic walk-through:
- Open the Waze app
- Tap ‘My Waze’
- Then go to Settings (the gear, top left of the screen for me)
- Tap on ‘Voice & Sound’
- Next, tap ‘Waze Voice’
- Then tap ‘Add a voice’
- A Safety Warning Pop-Up will appear reminding you that this voice will be giving you instructions so be sure they are clear.
- Then you’re taken to the screen where the magic happens!
- ‘Name your voice’
Below that is a list of all the possible directions Waze may give you. There are guide phrases and you can record them exactly as they appear. However, my family is a bit unorthodox. Instead of “keep left” my son yells, “keep left, I said left!” Instead of a simple, “turn left” my five-year-old says, “turn left towards magic!”
Once you’ve recorded all the directions, you simply tap SAVE. Tap your new voice to be your navigator and you’re all set for adorable directions!
We have thoroughly enjoyed listening to their cute little voices navigate us, what if I tell you it gets even better?! Once your voice is added, YOU CAN SHARE IT! As soon as our adopted aunts found out about the coolest new navigation, they demanded my children record directions for them as well! That’s when we discovered “Share voice directions!” So I sent them my saved “Kiddos” voice and they too get to enjoy my children’s hilarious directions for avoiding dragons, magic, and hunting Pokémon. The kids are already planning holiday-themed directions and more! Me? I’m looking forward to their creativity and hearing their tiny voices direct me long after their voices change.
