My name is Mandy, and I have working mom FOMO. It has been 3 days since my last attempt to force family time ... It was Saturday morning, and we were out of everything. After a long week at work, I was looking forward to spending the day screaming at my kids to stop screaming and making lunches no one would eat, but I needed to run my bi-weekly errand marathon. I shared my dilemma with my husband, and his advice was to just skip it. I don't even want to know the Lord of the Flies world we would live in if moms got to "just skip it." My over the top reaction to this ridiculous idea obviously caused him...
It seems all of us, parents and kids alike, are struggling with fatigue year-round. A common topic of conversation with other mothers is how there are never enough hours in a day to accomplish the busy schedules we have and it leads to fatigue or even exhaustion. As a working mom, this a struggle for me too. I work full time but also want my child to be involved in activities, prepare and share healthy family meals, and take care of the needs of my family, but it can be exhausting and often feel impossible to do it all. As a registered dietitian, I know there are some healthy habits my family can adopt to help fight fatigue. As...
We've become one of those families. You know the ones who now don't eat meat or dairy. And it's not because of the "What The Health" documentary (though it is an incredibly eye opening documentary). This all started because my husband has what the doctors categorized as Psoriatic Arthritis, and apparently a diet change can help the pain. So here we are. Of course we aren't perfect, and this is all a learning process of finding new recipes that are filling and delicious. But I've finally found the perfect breakfast meal that has greens in it! I mean it's so good even our toddler eats a bowl or 2 sippy cups full. This is my tried and true smoothie...
The first day of school was just a few days ago, and all day I couldn't wait for my boys to tell me about it. I was in the carpool line asking myself, "how can I get them to tell me the most details about their first day of school?" I expectantly waited to hear about new friends they met, their favorite activities, their favorite subjects, and what they played on the playground. I couldn't wait to for them to fill in the details since they had just started new grades in a new school.  After they got buckled into the car with their backpacks and lunch boxes, the answers I heard were good but short. "How was your day?"...
My five-year-old daughter had been asking for awhile to get her ears pierced. But, I wasn't sure. I was afraid that she wasn't mature enough to take care of them or that she would snag one on the playground at school. My mom made me wait until I was 9 to get mine pierced (she claimed that's when my cousin got hers done so I had to wait until the same age). On top of that, I couldn't decide where I would take her. I had read the stories about taking kids to tattoo parlors so that their ears could be pierced with a needle instead of the traditional mall kiosk gun. But I also had a friend who had...
