My New Way to Lent

It's the Lenten season. If you are like me you begin thinking about what to give up some time after you’ve attended your fair share of Mardi Gras parades, but before the Ash Wednesday service. Traditionally, I usually give up a food – sodas, fried foods, or candy. One year I gave up cursing -- let’s just say that was a challenge. This year I thought I would look at Lent a little differently. What are some things I can give up that would benefit my children, my husband and my family? Here are a few things I plan on giving up this year for Lent (and maybe I will just keep a few): The overwhelming need to clean up...
Happy Valentine's Day! This holiday, while usually associated with flowers and chocolate, doesn't have to be only for adults! Get your kids of any age involved in the fun by making love-inspired crafts, either to give as gifts or to enjoy themselves.  Paper Roll Hearts Great for Homemade Valentine's Day cards or refrigerator art What you'll need: Paper roll Paint, red or pink Cardstock, pink or white Paper plate        1. Push the roll inward to make the top of the heart and pinch the bottom for the point. 2. Spread a layer of paint onto your plate.  3. Dip the roll in the paint and use as a stamp!     *My two and a half year old daughter loved this one! It was easy, had minimal mess and it kept her attention.     You can stamp as much or...

Why I Don’t Do Resolutions

It’s a new year, and the word “resolution” has resurfaced everywhere – in the news, on your Facebook feed, from your friends, even on your family goal list. We associate the word with a fresh start or new beginning, typically made at the start of the new year. Some resolutions can be brand new, but I prefer to categorize many of them as continued improvements. Some of you may know I’m a little bit of a control freak. It has become even more glaring as my kids grow. So much of being a parent is not having control of much, especially since it involves raising tiny people who are growing into their own personalities and having their own thoughts. I started...
We all know that these are controversial times in America. There are so many things to disagree over that sometimes it seems there is nothing to agree on. We see it everywhere we turn. On social media there is constant expression of people’s opinions. Around the water cooler co-workers are going at it over the election result. It can be depressing and quite overwhelming. Oh how I long for the days where our heated discussions were the Kardashians' latest scandal or our disbelief at the Jolie-Pitt split. I believe that we are all long overdue for some fun lighthearted discussions. So, to keep your family gathering merry and bright, here are a few topics you may want to stay...
This time of year can be very emotional, and we all often fall victim to a little Stress Eating. Well, to help us out, I thought I'd go over a few Holiday Snacking Guidelines. That's right -- these are the regulations that apply during this magical time of year, which help us navigate from October clear until Mardi Gras. Here is a list to help clarify what factors determine whether your food is a meal or not. If you meet the following criteria, your food is NOT a meal. I repeat, your food is NOT. A. MEAL. 1. If you're standing We will inevitably be attending several parties and other social events sure to bring on stress. It's imperative that you remember, then,...
