Easy Summer Treats You Can Make at Home With Your Kids
Summer in Louisiana means hot afternoons, longer days, and finding creative ways to keep the kids entertained while making memories together. Some of our favorite summer activities happen right inside our own kitchen. The best part? They don’t have to be complicated (or require a long list of ingredients) to be special.
A super easy summer treat that my family and I love is homemade cookies and cream milkshakes!
It is so good and so simple with only 3 ingredients: Oreos, ice cream, & heavy cream or milk! Just use whatever you have on hand.
My kids absolutely loved being part of the process. I started by putting Oreos into a ziplock bag and letting them crush the cookies with their hands. They thought it was the best thing ever.
After the cookies were crushed, I added some vanilla ice cream to a cup, poured in a little heavy cream (no measuring required! 😉 And then added the Oreo crumbs. We gave it a good shake until everything was mixed together, and just like that, we had homemade cookies and cream milkshakes! It was the perfect little summer treat and a it made the kids feel like really concocted something! LOL!
Another favorite in our house is homemade popsicles.
This one is even easier than the milkshakes! We grabbed some popsicle molds (I found ours at Aldi), filled them with our favorite juice, and placed them in the freezer. That’s it! A few hours later, we had popsicles ready to enjoy.
Two more summer treats we are excited to make are banana ice cream pops and homemade ice cream sandwiches!
For the banana ice cream pops, all you need are bananas, popsicle sticks, and your favorite toppings.
- Slice a banana in half
- Add a popsicle stick
- Let the kids get creative. They can top their banana pops with peanut butter, caramel, chocolate fudge, sprinkles, or whatever toppings they love. It’s a simple treat, but the fun part is letting them create their own treat!
Homemade ice cream sandwiches are another fun activity for a summer day at home. We plan to bake jumbo cookies and add our favorite ice cream in the middle to make the perfect sweet treat. The kids get to decorate those too! They can roll their ice cream sandwiches in chocolate chips, add sprinkles, or drizzle them with caramel or fudge.
