Fashion Evolution :: Embracing Your Style In Your Thirties
When we were younger, and before we entered the hectic stages of motherhood, fashion often felt like something we could experiment with, trying to find ourselves through the clothes we wear. But, as we get older we become more confident in who we are (hopefully!) and start to embrace our own personal style, not through trends, but through what makes us feel good.
Here are some tips for navigating your style journey!
- Know Your Body and What Works for You
In your twenties, you might have been all about trying new things, often inspired by the latest fashion trends. But as you enter your thirties, you start to realize what actually looks good on your body. Now, instead of a flat tummy, you’re accustomed to rocking the mom bod. Our bodies change after having kids and sometimes we don’t bounce back. That’s totally okay and NORMAL. Embrace your body and learn what flatters you most.
- Comfort is Key
There’s something liberating about letting go of tight, restrictive clothes in favor of outfits that are comfortable, flattering, and easy to wear. As a mom, comfort becomes a priority. No more sacrificing your comfort just to look “cool” or trendy. After all, if you’re not comfortable in what you’re wearing, it shows.
- Curate Your Wardrobe
By now, you probably have a closet full of clothes, some of which you wear all the time and others that still have tags on them. It’s the perfect time to take stock of your wardrobe and choose pieces that truly fit your life right now. Get rid of stuff that doesn’t fit, that you haven’t worn in years, or that simply no longer reflects who you are.
- Define Your Own Style
Fashion trends come and go, but style is something personal. It’s time to embrace the idea that you don’t have to chase after every trend. Instead, define your own style. A prime example: the trends I tried to follow in my younger days were not me. As I approach my mid-thirties, I’ve opted for things that reflect my personality. Lots of band tees, slouchy sweaters, and quite a few pairs of Vans now make up the majority of my wardrobe. And you know what? I’ve never felt more comfortable with my personal style as I do now.
As we move through different stages of life, our relationship with fashion changes. It becomes less about fitting into trends and more about understanding what makes us feel like ourselves.
