Keeping Kids Happy During The Holidays
Oh how I love the holidays!!! My kids love the holidays too. We love to visit family for the holidays and bask in the love and activities. My parents always take the boys around to look at the beautiful Christmas lights. Sometimes, my parents drive the boys around to look for Santa flying in the sky. We make handmade ornaments every single year. I love our Christmas tree so much. There are so many wonderful memories captured in those ornaments.
But the most important thing besides the reason for the season is maintaining our joy.
Everyone is different. Some of us are extroverts and some aren’t. I’m unsure about one of us. So the holiday goal is to balance the activities and excitement with what they feel comfortable with.
- We remind each other of the reason behind the season. We talk about Jesus. We talk about the importance of birthdays. We talk about Jesus’ birthday.
- We share holiday goals. We sit down and have a family meeting where we decide what we want to do for the holidays.
- We decide what our new ornament will be. What will our theme be this year? We’ve done planets, dinosaurs, and race cars in the past. What’s next for us?
- How and where do we want to decorate? Do we want lights outside? Do you we want any large figures?
- Where do we want to go? My boys love visiting their Pawpaw and grandma every year for the holidays. They love their grandparents so much. Do we want to go anywhere else?
- We decide on our crafts and songs this year. The little things that will bring back so many lovely memories.
