Did you recently discover that your little one wants to take pictures with a live unicorn and now it’s your job to make dreams come true? Participating in a unicorn photography session will give your little one the chance to create some magic and excitement. One of the most exciting things about childhood is the innocence loaded with imagination and magic. I mean if your kiddo believes in unicorns, who are we to tell them differently. So, let’s plan to make magic happen with a real live unicorn. Before I go any further, let me issue a disclaimer. Our magical session included the dresses you see in the pictures. All provided by our photographer.
Saddle up while I tell you how to have the best experience with a live unicorn! BUT let’s start with this … these are LIVE animals. So talk to your kiddos and make sure they are aware that this is a living breathing unicorn. It helps to tell them that unicorns are horse cousins.
Now let’s make some magic come to life by booking your session with a live unicorn. Below I will share a few ideas for making this a pleasurable experience.
Research your photographer and ask lots of questions
The photographer we selected makes taking pictures an experience. I expected to simply show up, take pics with the unicorn, and leave. I fully expected to be rushed and hurried so she could move on to the next. This was totally not our experience. It was truly a magical experience for my child. Our photographer was so patient as my daughter’s excitement and anticipation turned into apprehension and tears. She not once told us “next.” No, she patiently allowed her to calm down and proceeded to capture the most astonishing pictures. This is why it is imperative that you research.
Next steps, try to find out what you can about the ponies aka unicorns
Working with horses and ponies takes a lot of patience. The ponies/horses the photographer decides to work with must be used to working with children as should their handler. You should be able to find this information by digging a little. If you can’t find it, just ask. The unicorn Ashley selected, Smokey, was mild mannered and followed the child well. At one point during the ride my child got nervous. Smokey had been trained to stop. He did not move again until she was ready. Again, our session was an experience … not just a session.
The sessions are outdoors
Unicorn magic shows up best in a field with tall grass. This is Louisiana so be prepared for mud, mosquitos, etc. I suggest a little bug spray and closed toe shoes. My young princess chose to wear cowgirl boots, because DUH (her words).
Speaking of mud
You will more than likely get muddy and/or sweaty. So chose your outfit wisely and be prepared to change your little one right after the pictures.
Wardrobe!!
You can always surf the internet for the perfect attire. However, our photographer provided dresses. Each of these dresses are literally runway ready, handmade and freaking amazing. If you decide to bring your own keep it mind you may have to help your child get to the designated area to reduce the chances of the clothing getting muddy.
What’s better than pictures with a unicorn, RIDING a unicorn of course!
Have fun
Finally, have fun. Allow your photographer to do their job. Let your kids have fun.
I’m not sure if the magic was more exciting for me or for my child. What I do know is that years from now when the magic has worn off, the memories will remain. And for me it was well worth the investment. Good luck and I hope you find an amazing experience. Come back and share your experience in the comments.
