Mother’s Day Doozie

Mother’s Day Doozie

Mother’s Day is always a tougher day for me. My mom passed away when I was five years old.  It has been something that has defined my whole life since. I don’t remember celebrating my mom for Mother’s Day. In fact, I can’t remember too much about her anymore as much as that pains my heart to admit. However, I do have one  huge memory that has always stuck with me about my mom throughout all my years. That memory is eating cheesecake with her. I can vividly remember eating both cherry and strawberry cheesecake. Every Friday night we would have a movie night and eat cheesecake. She loved the crust and my favorite part was the main cheesecake filling. I can remember feeling so cozy being snuggled up to her and us both having our spoons. It is my ultimate comfort food now.

This year Mother’s Day was different. I cried less tears this year because my husband and daughters helped me focus on the present. They helped  me focus on self care and taking time to rest. My husband cooked for me like he always does. They are so good to me. They know I miss my mom so much. My husband has always been so sensitive to the fact of how much I miss my mom.

A few days after Mother’s Day, I went with a friend to Oliva’s snowball stand here in Denham Springs for a snowball. I decided to get the Chantilly Cheesecake snowball. I knew it was going to have pieces of cheesecake in it. I’ve never had one of the doozie snowballs before but I’ve read reviews on how good they are. As I took the first bite, I was amazed. They nailed that summer dessert! I was almost in tears because I know my mom would love that snowball. Eating that Chantilly doozie  I had a moment. It was so soft and sweet. It was everything I remembered about my cheesecake Friday nights with my mama. I could have cried but I just pictured my mom smiling down on me instead. I feel like it was a gift from above that I found that treat that day. I’ll be back to get another cheesecake doozie soon!!
