BREC’S Independence Park Theatre and Cultural Center to offer Summer Film Camp

BREC’S Independence Park Theatre and Cultural Center to offer Summer Film CampIt’s lights, camera, action at BREC’s Independence Park Theatre and Cultural Center’s Summer Film Camp. As part of the Camp BREC 2023 offerings, Independence Park Theatre and Cultural Center (IPT) located at 7800 Independence Blvd Baton Rouge, LA 70806, will be expanding their camp offerings to include not only their musical and acting camps but campers will also be given an the opportunity to  explore movie making with a Youth Film Camp for tweens and teens (ages 9-16) and the inaugural INDY Film Festival for Youth Filmmakers.

While stage and musical acting camps have long been a tradition at IPT, programming staff are tapping into the vibrant Movie and Film Industry that has developed in Baton Rouge over the last several years. Campers will get to learn the art of creating movies from start to finish with digital cameras, screenwriting, storyboarding and various software programs. Due to the easy access to movie making apps and the presence of the Movie and Film Industry in the community where campers live, IPT is hoping to inspire young movie makers by giving them skills to grow creatively. The Youth Film Camp is structured to help introduce youth to the essentials of filmmaking while creating a fun and supportive environment in which they can pursue their passion.

The Inaugural INDY Film Festival will be a celebration of Young Film Talent within the Greater Baton Rouge Area. Entries to this festival are submitted from IPT Film Camps and Affiliate Youth Programs. This festival is an opportunity for the youth to showcase their movie making skills. This year IPT will be awarding students in the categories of short film, featured film, and podcast. IPT’s Youth Film Camp and INDY Film Festival will challenge young people to bring a story to life with moving images.

Registration is now open for both camps. Youth Film Camp will have two sessions this summer at IPT, Session 1: June 3-21 and Session 2: June 24-July 12. INDY Film Festival will be held on July 13 at 11 a.m.
