At the age of six, Pamela and her sister spent cold nights sleeping in the back of a U-Haul with no blankets. They didn’t know when they would eat. One night, Pamela’s mother awoke the girls suddenly and yelled at them to hide under a car in the parking lot. When a police officer pulled Pamela from her hiding place, she watched as her parents were arrested. She remembers watching as the police car left and her mother “faded away.” This is how Pamela became a foster child.
Fortunately, a CASA volunteer was assigned to be a voice for Pamela. “When you’re a child, no one listens to you, especially in the foster care system.” Pamela describes her CASA volunteer...

Many of us will be out on the town, enjoying date nights, and we thought this was the perfect time to share our favorite sweets and treats in Baton Rouge. This year, February 14 is a big day in our household. We don't typically celebrate Valentine's Day, but this year we already have plans. It's opening day at Alex Box for the 2014 LSU Baseball season. We are season ticket holders and have been for the last three years. We are taking a cue from some friends, who are also season ticket holders, and making opening night a date night. On January 30th, Red Stick Moms Blog and 25 readers had the privilege of touring the locally-owned Alexander's Highland Market alongside registered dietician, Melissa Martin, of Woman's Center for Wellness for our first Mom's Night at the Market. Our group had the chance to walk through the store slowly, which moms never get to do, learn about shopping for healthy foods in each section, and ask questions along the way. It was such a fun night for all the moms: learning, enjoying yummy food, meeting other moms, and winning some great prizes!
The evening began with the...

I think as moms we all have a deep desire to create a warm and happy home for our families to grow in. We want the space to be uplifting, beautiful, and remind us of who we are. Wife, mother-of-four, and artist, Courtney Richard, has done this in every corner of her Baton Rouge home. Each picture of this home will have you gazing and taking in every detail, amazed at all there is to see. Courtney has an undeniable talent for art and design, but even more heart and passion as a mom. She is a mom who knows how...
