Y’all! We won! What an exciting game! I have to admit that after Sunday night’s performance, I almost upgraded myself to a mostly interested but still amused wife of a LSU football superfan. It was certainly a magical night, and in more ways than one. I know I like to joke about my husband Matt’s obsession, but I was also raised in a family full of LSU superfans. Fall Saturday nights during my childhood were mostly spent watching (sometimes just listening to) LSU football at my grandparents’ house with dozens of family and friends. This past Sunday, we recreated one of those nights to celebrate my grandparents’ anniversary. My girls got a glimpse into how being an LSU fan...
We recently returned from our summer family “vacation.” I use quotation marks because we all know the term “vacation” is a joke if young kids are involved. I’ve stayed home all summer with my three girls, so our vacation was just me doing the same things but in a different state. The trip consisted of a trek across eastern Texas to visit family and friends that we haven’t visited in years. It was the hottest week in the history of weeks and not relaxing in the least, but it filled a space in my heart that had been aching for a while. That feeling of exhausted happiness got me thinking about why we go on these “vacations” in the...
'Twas the first week of summer And the kids slept in. We ate long breakfasts  As we lounged in the den. The refrigerator was stocked with healthy foods, And everyone was in the greatest of moods. My children’s little faces were all aglow As we talked all about the places we’d go.   We will go to the park and to the splash pad too, The museum, the library, even the zoo! Screen time was limited every day, Exciting arts and crafts were underway. Over the weeks, we buzzed around town Like busy bees sunup to sundown. Carefree were we with our sun-kissed skin, The days too short to fit it all in. But as summer went on it got hotter and hotter. We were only outside if in some kind of water. The heat made my children...
School is here! Can you believe it? Some parents are breathing a huge sigh of relief (because Mom and Dad are maxed out on summer adventures) while others are sad to see it all end. Regardless of where you stand, preparing for school goes beyond buying or DIY'ing a first-day-of-school sign for the photo op. (Although I'm all for that, too!) Here are some tips for a successful start of the school year for your young children: Get back into your routine If your family is like mine, your schedule and routines may have taken a detour during the summer. Gradually start getting back on track so that your child is well rested for school. You can expect a good amount of...
Dear Mama with the Phone, I know that your phone is important to you. Mine is important to me as well. Your kids are cute, they say cute things and do cute dances while you are driving. My children do the same. I am often tempted to grab my phone and video for "just a second." I don't, though. I just cannot justify what your reasoning would be for why you think it’s a good idea to drive while videoing. Can you please explain it to me? Singing songs together with your kids is wonderful. Those are precious memories that you and your children will both remember. I have a suggestion: put the phone down and enjoy that time. While sharing...
