Minivan Kind of Life

I started dreaming about getting a minivan a couple of years ago. I was a stay at home mom to a 3 year old and driving a small sedan. I convinced myself that it wasn't practical to get a van with only one child. Instead of me getting a new ride, I started driving my husband's CRV, and we traded in our little Civic so that he could get a truck. We had recently purchased a house and having a truck bed was a huge help for all of our projects. The CRV made good sense for me and got good gas mileage, but that desire to have all of the family friendly features of a minivan was always...
For many years, I made New Year's Resolutions at the end of December or the beginning of January, and my pattern was pretty similar. I made some resolutions that I was excited about, but part way through January or February I struggled with keeping them. My internal dialogue went something like this. "That wasn't a realistic resolution; I should focus on other things instead." Then I would let it go and generally forget about it. After a few years of this, I decided that making New Year's Resolutions in general wasn't helpful, and I just stopped making them. Last year I did something different. I didn't do it at the beginning of January, but in the last few months of...

Resolution Déjà Vu

Resolution Déjà Vu Making New Year's resolutions seems like a rather solid idea of encouraging self-improvement, so I try to set resolutions each year. But the problem is that resolutions are almost always going to fail. I don't say this lightly: only about 8% of people who set resolutions are able to keep them through the end of the year! I have yet to find myself in that elusive 8% of people who keep their resolutions. Instead, I'm always a part of the 92% who just ... fail. This does not dissuade me each year from setting resolutions. The issue though is that I have resolution déjà vu. This seems familiar. Or, Hmm, I think I've set this resolution before and Hey, wasn't my goal last year...
I'll be there first to admit, I love me a good ol' family gathering. I love the holidays. I love all the magical chaos that comes along with it. I LOVE to entertain in my home, to host my family and friends and entertain their faces off ... I really really do. What I loathe? All of the freaking prep that goes along with it. I mean the holidays are crazy ... crazy like my kids after their Paw Paw gave them a super sized Icee for the first time ever. Crazy as in the time I did all my Christmas shopping at midnight two days before Santa was to arrive. Crazy. This year, I'm hosting Christmas day at my house....
The holiday season is upon us and I don’t know about you, but I get overwhelmed with getting so much done in such a short amount of time. I know, I know ... I have all year to prepare but I’m apparently a procrastinator. Thankfully, we have a very small family but there are so many holiday / Christmassy things I want to do and I only have so many days to do it. So if you’re anything like me and need to unwind and do some de-stressing, here are a few of my go to’s that I love to do during the holiday season. Hot Cocoa and a Christmas movie My favorite hot chocolate is Ghirardelli and I add crushed peppermint...
