My husband and I were thrilled to start a family. My first pregnancy was incredibly smooth, with my OB literally saying that every appointment was perfect. Besides the normal morning sickness, there were no complications. I gave birth to a healthy 7 pound 12 ounce baby boy at 40 weeks. He was gorgeous! He even miraculously slept through the night a few times early on. Three years later when we wanted to try for another baby, I thought it would be just as easy. When I found out I was pregnant the next time, I didn't anticipate any complications. As soon as the pregnancy test was positive, I started thinking about baby names and going through baby things we had...
It's dinner time, and the decision has been made to order takeout. What a relief, right? One less thing for this tired mama to worry about. But, wait. They want me to tell them what I want to order and from where. Yeah, I can't do that, and here's why. 1. 50% of my time away from work is spent coordinating the food in my family. I am in charge of creating the menu, making the lists, choosing which fruits and vegetables that I want to rot in the bottom drawers of the fridge, etc. I have officially depleted my food-related decision making capabilities for the week. 2. I just spent two hours scouring apps for coupons and setting my Target...
It's one of my favorite times of the year, when fall is in full force, and people are cheering for their favorite team. School has been in session for a few months, and we are in a regular routine. We can say who we are rooting for, and we can say what we like about our team. We can also say what we don't like about the other teams or their fans. It's easy to label people for who they cheer for or what they stand for, whether it's football or something else.  As a parent, I hear other labels. There are labels that are so easy for us to use to describe other parents or their children. But our...
A few months ago, I wrote about our struggle with whether to send our July baby to kindergarten or red-shirt her. We ultimately decided to go ahead and enroll her in kindergarten. After lots of in depth discussions with her daycare director and 2 months of speech therapy, we were confident that she was ready. It's been one month, and I'm even more certain that kindergarten was the right choice. Our daughter has learned so much, and we love her teachers and school. Thankfully, she's excited to go to school each day and has adjusted to her new school with no issues. Me on the other hand? That's a different story. It turns out that I am the one who...
Sunday nights on social media are a hot bed of reactions and recaps of prime time television. For example, there has been True Blood, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, and of course, America's favorite show Game of Thrones. And I've watched none of them.  Y'all I just can't get down with a lot of prime time television these days. I've talked before about how much I enjoy watching family shows with my guys, but when it comes to watching grown up shows with my husband, I've got nothing. I think there's a few reasons why.  Am I a prude? I watched the first 20 minutes of the initial episode of Game of Thrones and immediately knew this was something I couldn't do. I got there...
