At least a few times a month, I get a call from a potential client seeking counseling for their child. It begins something like this: “Yes, I’d like to schedule a counseling session for my nine-year old.” “Sure, we can set up family counseling,” I say. “What exactly are the issues you’d like to address?” “Oh, I was actually just looking for counseling for my daughter…” Now, while counseling for children is certainly something I do, I can’t help but get a little frustrated inside when I have this conversation. Let me just cut straight to the point(s). I cannot do for your child in one hour per week, what you can do for your child in the other 167 hours. The problem...
It seems all of us, parents and kids alike, are struggling with fatigue year-round. A common topic of conversation with other mothers is how there are never enough hours in a day to accomplish the busy schedules we have and it leads to fatigue or even exhaustion. As a working mom, this a struggle for me too. I work full time but also want my child to be involved in activities, prepare and share healthy family meals, and take care of the needs of my family, but it can be exhausting and often feel impossible to do it all. As a registered dietitian, I know there are some healthy habits my family can adopt to help fight fatigue. As...
We've become one of those families. You know the ones who now don't eat meat or dairy. And it's not because of the "What The Health" documentary (though it is an incredibly eye opening documentary). This all started because my husband has what the doctors categorized as Psoriatic Arthritis, and apparently a diet change can help the pain. So here we are. Of course we aren't perfect, and this is all a learning process of finding new recipes that are filling and delicious. But I've finally found the perfect breakfast meal that has greens in it! I mean it's so good even our toddler eats a bowl or 2 sippy cups full. This is my tried and true smoothie...

The First Tee is a national organization that teaches young boys and girls (ages 7-18 years old) life skills through the game of golf. Upon introduction to the program, kids will learn the basics of the game, as well as the nine core values used as a foundation...
I hate my body. Historically, we've never really gotten along. But it's bigger than it's ever been, so things are not good. This hate is not new.  It's been lingering since high school. Sometimes waiting in the wings and sometimes playing the lead. My eyes are too close together, and my boobs are too far apart (and saggy and uneven). My hair is so thin and fine. I can't figure out how to fix it. Someone please teach me how to make a messy bun. My arms stay hidden as often as possible. Sleeves are safer. My stomach has grown disproportionately to the rest of me. I'm able to mostly hide that. But I've never been that girl who knows how to 'dress for my...
