Each year around Labor Day, approximately 115 cities around the country hold the Rally to Improve Birth sponsored by ImprovingBirth.org. This year, Baton Rouge held it's 3rd annual rally, and I was lucky to be invited to participate as a co-coordinator along with Hannah Birchman (mother of 6 and Coordinator of the Baton Rouge Chapter of the International Cesarean Awareness Network) and Amy Shamburger (mother of 3 and Administrator of the Louisiana Natural Birth group). More than 135 men, women, and children fought the heat and came together to "stand in support of evidence based maternity care and the right of women to make their own informed decisions about how to give birth". So, what's wrong with birth and why...
Wow! We can't believe how much this blog has grown and changed over the past 10 months! With the recent addition of five new contributors, we thought it was the perfect time to get some new pictures taken and give the site and our Facebook page a fresh, new look. We are SO glad we worked with Tara Marie Photography to capture these awesome shots and wanted to be sure to show our thanks through this photo update. Tara was absolutely incredible to work with.  She found a way to capture 15 crazy-busy, end-of-the-day tired mommas so beautifully and in the best light.  We love that we were able to represent our team here at Red Stick Moms Blog in...

From July 15th -30th, several local, fitness centers opened their doors and offered free classes to those who registered with the crawl.  This opportunity to try unique, specialized classes for free was enough to get me out of my comfort zone. I am an active person, but I am more comfortable running the lakes than walking into a gym or fitness class. Actually I signed up for my first marathon before ever having the nerve to go to a fitness class alone! Crazy, right? The Fit Crawl offered a rare treat to try all...
Do you know how to perform CPR on your infant or child? You should! If something went wrong, the time between when you dialed 911 and when EMS arrives is a critical window. Those three to five minutes are the difference between life and death. Bystander CPR can double and even triple a victim’s chance for survival. That is why Red Stick Moms Blog, The American Heart Association, Ochsner Health System and Bayou Time Sitters are ready to help you learn those lifesaving skills. Join us for Coffee, Conversations & CPR Class on Monday, June 2 as we celebrate National CPR Awareness Week. This “mom friendly” class will teach infant and child CPR and provide free childcare (to a limited number of...
