Why I Encourage Curiosity About My Child With Special Needs After the reality of having a child with very complex medical and developmental needs sank in, I decided that I was going to bring my sweet Connor in his bright blue wheelchair everywhere I could. I wanted to introduce him to everyone and everything that makes this world go round. I knew it'd be tough (like places that are not handicap accessible, which by the way STINKS), but I was prepared. I was going to teach the world about my son. I started noticing the stares from others fairly quick, from adults and children. I know they are curious stares, but what hurts the most for me is when certain parents reprimand their child for staring at mine and...
Y'all!  Tomorrow is the big day...the day we find out what our next sweet baby will be!  As most mom's know, the excitement is something that can't be contained.  Tonight I sit here, trying my best to keep all the built up giddy-ness to my self I can't help but think about all the family and friends that are just as excited, if not more.  I know that along with my questions of "Will I have another sweet baby boy?"....and...."OMG! or is it a girl?!", everyone else is asking the same questions.  Some might even say there are expectations from what our ultrasound reveals tomorrow. With all three of my pregnancies, I feel as if a girl has definitely been the...

The emotion and excitement of change and discipline quickly fade into disappointment when we realize that this life thing is hard. And we're tired. So, there are no resolutions for me this year. Most days, I wake up tired, go to work, come home, play with my kid,...

Ah, cold and flu season. Boo you. The last week has been rough, and it’s been one of those times when reality hits and I think, Oh, wow, I’m responsible for another person, and he needs me whether I’m feeling 100% or not. It started when my baby got sick last weekend. We got to pay a Saturday morning visit to the pediatrician (every mom’s favorite thing to do), where my son was diagnosed with pink eye and a cold. Unfortunately, as we know, there’s not much you can do for a cold except ride it out, but the doctor did prescribe some lovely eye drops for the pinkeye. If you haven’t ever tried to put eye drops in the eyes...
