We're the type of parents who call body parts by their anatomically-correct title. Elbow. Ankle. Penis. No big deal. When I was pregnant for my third child, my oldest asked when the baby was going to come out my "bagina." My grandmother thinks it's uncomfortably progressive and even questioned, "But what if they say it at school?!" Honestly, they wouldn't. Unless, of course, something were wrong with their penis or bagina. Because to them the term isn't taboo. It's not a punchline. They have no more reason to say one of those words to get a laugh than they would to say "ear" or "thumb."  It's only gotten us into trouble twice. Once, I whispered to my son in a...
Disclosure :: Thanks to the generosity of our partners at Britax, 4 different Red Stick Moms Blog writers had the opportunity to test drive the new B-Mobile Stroller and we all reached consensus that this is a "must have" stroller. Any Amazon links included in this post are affiliate links; all opinions are 100% my own.  Britax B-Mobile :: The Little Black Dress of Strollers Let's talk strollers, mamas.  How many strollers have you purchased in your motherhood lifetime? For me, a mom of four, I've probably owned ... six strollers? I know for a fact that of those six-ish strollers, two were travel system strollers and three were umbrella strollers. AND before getting this amazing gift from Britax, I was headed to grab a new lightweight stroller for my...
I opted for natural childbirth with my first-born. I never really questioned if I would be able to do it – that’s the stubborn in me, I guess. We took the Lamaze classes and I read all the books. Without really knowing what to expect, I was “prepared.” I just kept telling myself it was like running a race, mostly all mental. And it certainly was a mental game of focus. But it was obviously very physical, too. Nearly a week late, the little man wasn’t leaving his cozy home without a fight. Or at least a hand on top of his head to get him stuck a few times on the way out. It was nine hours of...
A few years ago, I found this cute printable that read "Do What Matters" in gold letters. It was pretty and I thought it was, of course, a great positive message. So I printed it, gave it a crafty little paper frame and pinned it to my cubicle wall. "Yeah, what I do matters," I said to myself, like some self-motivating, successful phrase while focusing on whatever I was doing. Two months ago, I lost our third baby. Out of nowhere, at 19 weeks and 5 days, I started leaking and cramping. It just felt like early Braxton Hicks tightness, but I was wrong. I was in pre-term labor. We sat in the emergency room waiting for the OB-GYN when...
