First Sunday Funday

I love affordable outings with my toddler, and my favorite price is free! I never know how long my two year old will be agreeable, so I hate to do anything too pricy. When I read about First Sunday at the Louisiana Arts & Science Museum, I knew it was right up my alley. What’s First Sunday? On the first Sunday of each month, LASM offers free general admission and reduced admission to planetarium shows.

IMG_1724The museum has a little something for everyone.  For fans of all things space, there is a planetarium featuring a 60 foot dome screen as well as space science exhibits.  The art fans will be impressed by the changing art exhibitions.  And if history is your thing, there is a recreated Ancient Egyptian tomb with a 2,300-year-old mummy! None of these were too impressive to my toddler, but she did love the playroom filled with kitchen toys, tools, a climbing house, and a train set.  The Museum Store has plenty of goodies for those of you who can’t leave without memorabilia.

IMG_1718LASM also holds many events throughout the year.  They hold an annual Gala, workshops for families, and host lectures by visiting artists.  There are many Saturday programs for children of all ages.  Young Kids will enjoy Ms. Trudy’s Traveling Trunk Show.  Your 6-12 year olds have access to the Engineer It, Viewing and Doing Art, and BASF Kids’ Lab Weekend Science Program.

If you go for First Sunday and find that you love LASM, they offer several membership packages. Membership gets you free admission and discounts in the store and on several other events.   The Louisiana Arts and Science Museum is also a great place to have a birthday party. There are several themes to choose from including pirates, dinosaurs, and outer space.

The next First Sunday is THIS coming Sunday, June 1 from 1pm-5pm.  This is the perfect opportunity to check out the Louisiana Arts and Science Museum for the first time if you haven’t already. If you want to beat the crowd, try to get there right at 1pm. I know that our family will definitely be back!

Disclaimer: This is NOT a sponsored post. I just love LASM!

Ashley grew up in Joplin, Missouri and attended the University of Arkansas where she earned a degree in Finance and Insurance. She met her husband, Jason, in Fayetteville and they have one daughter, Etta Mae. They moved to Baton Rouge in 2013 for Jason's job with the LSU Tigers. Ashley is an extroverted introvert who loves Ted Talks, following politics on Twitter, and figuring out how to get the best deals on everything without paying shipping. If it were up to her, she would get paid to read books and take every college class so that she could learn everything about everything, but instead she pays the bills by working in recruiting for a multinational tech company. Ashley is blessed to have a daughter who is at least as stubborn as she is and a husband who is laid back enough to put up with both of them.
