Good-bye Cookies, Hello Santa Steak!

I’m gonna let you in on a very well kept secret. Come in close, did you know we run Christmas traditions?!? Like us! You, me, and Cathy down the street! We are the ones that get to decide if our house is elf friendly, we buy the gifts, we run this thing!

It took me longer than I care to admit to realize this. But now that I have, I’m jumping in head first! We’re shaking up Christmas in these parts! I’m putting my foot down, no more cookies!

Alright, simmer down all you keyboard warriors! I’m not calling a freeze on Christmas altogether, just the cookies. You see, even though we make adorable & delicious sugar cookies as a business, I don’t really have a sweet tooth. So when the kids set out cookies for Santa, I literally dread taking those bites to prove his visit.

A few years ago, I was at the grocery store picking up last minute fruits to stuff the stockings and I aimlessly strolled down the fresh cut meats and my mouth immediately began to water! And that’s when all the light bulbs lit & stars aligned! Santa would kill for a perfectly cooked steak on Christmas! Why hadn’t I ever thought of this before?! What deliciousness had I been keeping him from?

Thus was born our new family tradition, Santa Steak! For 3 years now, we’ve taken the kids to the store to pick out the most perfectly marbled steak. We’ve mixed the marinade together and let our steak soak up the delicious herbs. Then on Christmas Eve the kids set out our special Christmas plate, a steak knife, a fork, & a drink for the jolly red dude! They get so excited!! They know Mom & Dad will cook the steak to a perfect temp right before we head to bed (that way Santa isn’t left with a cold steak, of course). On Christmas Day, they all race to his plate to see if he’s eaten all his steak. And you know what? He’s eaten the WHOLE thing every year! It’s quite possibly the best tradition we’ve ever started! Do yourself a favor, set out a Santa Steak this year & see what happens.

Do you have any unique family traditions? We’d love to hear about them!
