Knock Knock Children’s Museum
Location: 1900 Dalrymple Drive, Baton Rouge
Hours: Monday-Wednesday & Friday: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. • Thursday: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. • Saturday: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. • Sunday: 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Admission: $15 (ages 2+) • Under 2: Free
If you’re visiting with little ones, Knock Knock Children’s Museum is a must. With 18 interactive learning galleries, children can climb, build, create, splash, shop in a kid-sized grocery store, and explore exhibits designed specifically for imaginative play and early learning.
Parent Tip: Plan to spend at least two to four hours here, and pack a change of clothes if your child loves the water play area.
Louisiana Art & Science Museum 
Location: 100 South River Road, Baton Rouge
Hours: Wednesday-Friday: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. • Saturday: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. • Sunday: 1-5 p.m.
Admission: Admission varies depending on age and whether you include a planetarium show.
From ancient artifacts to interactive science exhibits, the Louisiana Art & Science Museum offers something for everyone. Don’t miss the Irene W. Pennington Planetarium, where kids can journey through space without ever leaving Baton Rouge.

LSU Museum of Art
Location: Shaw Center for the Arts, Downtown Baton Rouge
Hours: Tuesday-Saturday: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. • Sunday: 1-5 p.m.
Admission: Adults: $5 • Children 12 and under, LSU Staff/Students, Veterans: Free
Introduce your children to the world of art through colorful exhibits and rotating collections. The museum also offers family-friendly programming throughout the year.

Capitol Park Museum (Louisiana State Museum)
Location: 660 North Fourth Street, Baton Rouge
Hours: Tuesday-Saturday: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Admission: $10 Adults • $8 for Seniors, Military, and Students with ID
This museum tells the story of Louisiana through fascinating exhibits featuring Mardi Gras traditions, music, sports, military history, Native American culture, and much more. It’s a wonderful way to help kids better understand the unique history and culture of our state.

LSU Rural Life Museum 
Location: 4560 Essen Lane, Baton Rouge
Hours: Daily: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Admission: Small admission fee; varies by age
Step back in time as you explore more than 30 historic buildings spread across a beautiful 40-acre property. Children can see old cabins, churches, barns, and farming equipment while learning what everyday life looked like in Louisiana centuries ago.
Parent Tip: Wear comfortable shoes—you’ll be doing plenty of walking!
USS KIDD Veterans Museum
Location: Downtown Baton Rouge Riverfront
Hours: Daily: 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Admission: Ticketed admission
Visit the USS KIDD Veterans Museum while the ship is away for maintenance. What to expect upon the ships’ arrival: climb aboard a real World War II destroyer and experience history firsthand. Kids love exploring the ship’s decks, sleeping quarters, and control rooms while learning about the brave men and women who served our country.
Parent Tip: There are steep stairs and ladders throughout the ship, making it best suited for children who can climb independently.
LSU Museum of Natural Science
Location: LSU Campus
Hours: Check the museum’s website before visiting.
Admission: Free
If your child loves animals, dinosaurs, or nature, this hidden gem is worth a visit. The museum features fascinating exhibits on Louisiana wildlife, fossils, birds, reptiles, and even the preserved original Mike the Tiger.

Children’s Museum of St. Tammany (Mandeville)
