Mom Prom: “Shake It Off” RECAP {Mom’s Night Out}

Disclosure: Our amazing Mom Prom: “Shake It Off” was held at the beautiful East Baton Rouge Parish Main Library. This evening wouldn’t have been such a success without our wonderful community sponsors: Kismet Cosmetics, The Massage Emporium, Air Blow Dry Bar, Whole Foods, Indie Plate, Frankie’s Dawg House, Cupcake Allie, Hanley’s, Cake Jewels and Leblanc’s Food Stores.

On Friday, May 15th, the mood for the evening was set perfectly to the backdrop of the best music, indulgent services, and delicious food. A light rain was trickling but that didn’t stop our moms from looking fabulous and having a blast dancing the night away. This night was all about shaking off the stress, having a blast with girlfriends, and making some new friends along the way. It really is OUR pleasure to be able to host a well-deserved night out for our local moms. And being able to meet you all in person is really the icing on the cake for us!

Thank You To Our Amazing Host and Sponsor: The East Baton Rouge Parish Main Library

We were so fortunate to have our event in such a beautiful space. The Main Library is a versatile and classy venue that we just knew would be the perfect spot for Mom Prom.  The staff was incredibly gracious and helpful from the beginning to the end of the event, even offering behind-the-scenes tours of the amazing children’s section!

Thank You To Our Service Sponsors

We couldn’t shake it off at Mom Prom without having some pampering, right? We want to thank our service sponsors SO much because they truly gave moms something extra to enjoy.

Kismet Cosmetics set up a beautiful display of their signature lipstick colors for moms to try. They were able to sit in a comfy chair while a make-up artist chose a lip color that would work best with their skin tone and outfit. When do we ever get time to do this? It really was so much fun to see everyone rocking a variety of beautiful lip colors!

The Massage Emporium came ready to please! They set up two massage chairs and pampered moms with hand massages. The team set up in a quiet area, which allowed moms to escape to a place of relaxation if even for a little while. Being that it was the end of the week…this luxury was just what the doctor ordered.

Air Blow Dry Bar brought their talented hair stylists ready to give our moms that extra “umph” with beautiful curls and braids. It only took a few minutes, and their hair was transformed into something fun and different! There were even a few tips learned along the way about how to get those perfect beach waves!

FOOD, WINE and a GOOD time: Thank You To Our Food and Beverage Sponsors

Our sponsors really outdid themselves for this event. While our DJ brought life to the crowd with his great selection of music, moms made their way through the doors to find some pretty amazing things happening. They were greeted with Grenache wine, Chenin Blanc wine, bottled water and LaCroix sparkling waters.

Indie Plate brought their flavor game yet AGAIN by using their fresh ingredients and culinary talent: bruschetta bites topped with local cheeses, tomatoes and greens, and cheese grits with a mushroom bacon pulled beef topping with microgreens. Lastly, they offered delicious fresh berries and cream. Our moms couldn’t get enough! It’s always a pleasure to have them at our events.

Frankie’s Dawg House really brought us home to our southern roots by providing their amazing gourmet hot dogs. They provided their signature Smoked Boudin Dawg (which was uh-mazing) and Hot Dawgs for our moms to enjoy. Needless to say, even though we had on dresses, that didn’t stop us from enjoying these popular, delicious bites.

Hanley’s Foods brought us their refreshing and southern-style homemade Sensation salad dressing (bottled in Louisiana) on top of some beautiful greens for our moms to enjoy. Their signature Sensation salad dressing is low carb, gluten free, and we thought it was sensational!

LeBlanc’s Food Stores kindly provided Blue Plate Grenache wine and Chenin Blanc wine to be served. Let’s just say, it didn’t last long!

LaCroix provided their all-natural sparkling waters in several different flavors: Peach, Orange, Passionfruit, Berry, Lemon, Lime, and Coconut. These were so refreshing after all the dancing we were doing!

Thanks To Our Sponsors Who Satisfied Our Sweet Tooth

What would a Mom’s Night Out be without indulging in something deliciously sweet? It just wouldn’t be fair to gather for such a fun event and not have something to hit the sweet spot. Our wonderful sponsors outdid themselves and really brought some amazing flavors to the table.

Cupcake Allie provided some amazing mini-cupcakes with classics such as Red Velvet and Death by Chocolate. They were perfectly moist and the icing was wonderfully smooth. She also showcased her cake balls with yummy flavors like Butter Pecan. She provided tastings of Pina Colada and Margarita alcohol-infused cake balls, too. Allie is passionate about bringing you joy in the simplest ways and she certainly delivered!

Our friends at Whole Foods provided an assortment of decadent desserts that included Canollis and Tiramasu bites. Their desserts are always fresh and delicious. You just can’t go wrong with desserts from Whole Foods.

Cake Jewels brought a trendy twist to the all-popular cake bites. These were nothing short of deliciously fresh and moist. Owner, Molly, offered us flavors such as Wedding Cake, Strawberry and German Chocolate. They were decorated beautifully and you can see that her talent for creating these didn’t stop here. She is able to customize her cake bites to suit mostly anything you might have in mind. We truly enjoyed having them and can’t wait for more!

We had such an awesome DJ! Jonathan of Menckology Music knew exactly what we all wanted to hear. We came to Mom Prom to “Shake It Off” and that’s exactly what we did. He kept us on our toes most of the night, only exiting the floor for more water. His playlist ranged from Taylor Swift, Flo Rida to Cyndi Lauper. You know it was a great time when your feet still hurt the next day!

It was so cool to watch artist, Chad Schoonmaker, create a painting right before our eyes. We watched as he added colors and layers to create one of his beautiful, abstract pieces. One lucky mom even got to take it home at the end of the night!

A HUGE thank you to Tahjah Harmony, the “whimsical creative behind the lens” of Quaint+Whim. She captured such natural, sweet moments of everyone having a great time. It was truly all smiles. She worked diligently to keep up with the photo booth area as well as capturing moments from the services, food area and of course…all the dancing!! We love her artistry and we know you will, too!

Thank You To Our Local Moms and #RSMBGIVESBACK

We want to take a moment to celebrate you, our local moms! This evening turned out exactly as it was envisioned–filled with LOTS of fun and laughter. Your loyalty to our blog and dedication to being great moms in our community is always noticed and appreciated. We are so appreciative to everyone who brought donations to fill the supply closets of Iris Domestic Violence Center. We were overwhelmed by your generosity and were able to fill TWO SUV’s of donations! Thank you!

Ericka P.
Ericka is originally a New Orleans gal who was raised to begin many dishes with a roux. Since 2011, she has happily embraced the Red Stick life with her husband of seven years, Tyler. Although she met her husband at an LSU game after her car broke down, they both attended Northwestern State University where she graduated with a Business Administration degree. After graduation, she and Tyler took a leap of faith and tied the knot. She dabbled in the corporate scene but eventually returned to school to pursue her passion for teaching and earned a Master’s degree in Elementary Education. She taught at an inner-city school in Baton Rouge for 3 years where she gained a family of students and colleagues alike. She’s traded in her beloved Expo pens and clipboard to stay home with her sweet and adventurous one-year-old son, Cullen. She is so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the sisterhood of fellow moms. Motherhood has been the best roller coaster she’s ever been on and even at the most challenging times, she tries to remember to embrace the chaos and “bless this mess” mentality. Ericka loves a good conversation, coffee, empowering other women {because we can all use a little encouragement}, laughing, baking and making memories with her family.
