The Holy Twelve :: Louisiana Festival Essentials

As a mom of two small children attending festivals in South Louisiana, it’s essential to be prepared for a day of fun and potential challenges.

Here’s a list of tried and true festival essentials to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience ::

  1. Stroller or Wagon :: If your children are still young, a sturdy stroller or wagon will keep them secure and make it easier to navigate crowded festival grounds. Wagons are also useful for storing festival food or crafts you snag along the way.

  2. Sun Protection :: Pack sunscreen with a high SPF to protect your family’s skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Don’t forget sunglasses, hats, and lightweight clothing to shield against UV exposure. In addition, I bring bug spray to keep mosquitos and other pests at bay.
  3. Snacks and Water :: Keep your kids energized and hydrated throughout the day with plenty of water and healthy snacks like fruits, granola bars, and crackers. Consider bringing a small cooler or insulated bag to keep perishable snacks fresh. I like to start them off healthy before diving into crawfish monica or fried Oreos 🙂
  4. Diaper Bag Essentials :: Stock your diaper bag with diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream, and changing pads. Having a portable changing station will come in handy for quick diaper changes on the go.
  5. Comfort Items :: Pack comfort items such as blankets, pacifiers, or favorite toys to soothe your children and keep them content during downtime.
  6. First Aid Kit :: Be prepared for minor scrapes, bumps, or insect bites by packing a basic first aid kit with bandages, antiseptic wipes, and pain relievers suitable for children.
  7. Hand Sanitizer and Wet Wipes :: Festival environments can be messy, so keep hand sanitizer and wet wipes on hand for quick clean-ups before snacks or meals.
  8. Entertainment :: Bring along books, small toys, or coloring supplies to keep your children entertained while waiting in lines or during breaks between festival activities.
  9. Portable Potty :: Consider bringing a portable potty or travel-sized toilet seat for toddlers who may need to use the restroom frequently or are uncomfortable with public facilities. This is also useful if we go to a festival that is not in the Baton Rouge area.
  10. Emergency Contact Information :: Carry a card with emergency contact information, including your name, phone number, and any pertinent medical information for your children, in case of unforeseen circumstances. I have this information current in my iPhone in place of a card.
  11. Cash and ID :: Don’t forget to bring cash for food purchases, admission fees, or souvenirs. Carry a form of identification for yourself and your children, such as a driver’s license or ID card
  12. Backup Clothing :: Pack an extra set of clothing for each child in case of spills, accidents, or unexpected changes in weather.
