50 Thoughts of a Breastfeeding Mom

Disclosure :: World Breastfeeding Week is recognized August 1 – 7, 2016. This year, the World Breastfeeding Week theme is about how breastfeeding is a key element in getting us to think about how to value our wellbeing from the start of life, how to respect each other and care for the world we share. Our World Breastfeeding Week is sponsored by Woman’s Hospital.

As moms, we already think about so many different things every second of the day with kids, work, schedules, etc. Breastfeeding just adds a whole other dimension to our non-stop thought process. Here is just a small sample of things that may go through a breastfeeding mom’s head over a period of 24 hours or maybe even just 10 minutes.

  1. Did you just bite me?!
  2. I wonder if this shirt will stretch down enough…
  3. Can’t wear that dress right now.
  4. Yes! I can catch up on my show!
  5. Hi, I’m over here! (as milk is spraying everywhere)
  6. You are just the sweetest baby…
  7. Please don’t pull my necklace.
  8. I forgot to take my Fenugreek today.
  9. I smell like milk…
  10. Please don’t bite me again…
  11. I need to drink more water.
  12. Sure, you can turn your head while still latched on…
  13. Stop scratching my chest!!
  14. Did I put on nursing pads this morning?
  15. I forgot to pull my tank top back up!
  16. Breastmilk can probably fix that…
  17. I’m pretty sure the pump is speaking to me…
  18. Really hope I don’t leak today.
  19. Thank God for Lanolin!
  20. I forgot my pump parts again?!
  21. Let me show you my stash!
  22. These pump parts are clean enough…
  23. I just nursed you!
  24. Tell me you didn’t spill milk – I WILL cry.
  25. Should I get a back-up generator for my freezer stash?
  26. One day, these will be mine again. One day.
  27. Aww, she has the cutest smile!
  28. Which side did she use last?
  29. I wonder if I can reach (fill in the blank) from here without moving…
  30. Baby is still sleeping … should I pump or endure the pain?
  31. I think the right one is bigger…
  32. My shirt is wet … again.
  33. How many hours will we be gone? I need to bring the pump.
  34. Why is his latch getting so lazy?!
  35. Should I drink coffee and suffer the consequences?
  36. Oops, I just spilled crumbs on his head…
  37. Maybe if I lower the screen brightness setting it won’t bother him…
  38. How long has she been eating?!
  39. Did I just fall asleep?
  40. I love his little face…
  41. If I fall asleep, I may drop him!
  42. Wish I didn’t have to pump and dump…
  43. Please don’t put your foot in my neck.
  44. My boobs hurt!
  45. I hope none of these other babies start crying while I’m here…
  46. I may have taken too much Fenugreek.
  47. We need a bigger freezer.
  48. Please don’t pull my shirt down in public.
  49. I’m SO glad to be done with nursing!
  50. I really miss nursing my baby…

Undoubtedly, you can think of at least 50 more. Nurse on mamas!
