Unfollow: Turning Off the Noise

Unfollow has become my favorite button.

Recently, I realized (for the hundredth time) how much time I actually spend on my phone. And I’m embarrassed about it.

Phones can be so addicting. I’ve set lots of limits for myself to get off my phone: turning off notifications, charging my phone across the room when I go to bed, etc. These ALL work well for me. HOWEVER, I started thinking about the TYPE of content I’m consuming when I get online and what it’s doing to me.

If it’s not giving you life, get rid of it!

I decided to do a SUPER inventory of who I was following on social media. Were these people adding value to my life? Do they make me feel good about myself? Are they encouraging me to achieve my goals or be the type of person I want to be? Are they authentic?

I started realizing I was following a lot of people who I probably shouldn’t even be paying attention to.

Ensure the unfollows.

I started unfollowing people like it was my job, and I’m still not done! If I’m going to spend time on my phone, which is inevitable, I at least need to feel confident that the content I’m consuming is ADDING value to my life…not making me feel DEVALUED.

Do any of you struggle with this? Don’t feel bad about unfollowing (or muting people who you don’t feel comfortable unfollowing). It is SO life-giving.
