What to Pack :: Lunch Hack

School lunches! Whether you’re packing because you have to or because your picky eater just can’t handle school lunch, packing lunch can be a daunting task! How does one keep from packing PB&J every dang day?!

We’ve got a little hack at my house! I’ve seen the awesome moms that have buckets of lunch approved items & the kids (or parents grab something from each basket for a well balanced meal. And it’s awesome, but our tiny cabinetry doesn’t allow for such a set up. BUT we have found keeping a list of each kids food preferences helps. Our lists are broken down into categories: veggies, fruit, grains, dairy, protein, sandwiches, snacks, & dips. Our kids eat a pretty good variety, but one loves tomatoes and won’t come near broccoli on the other hand our broccoli lover won’t even look at a tomato. Our lists are pinned to the fridge and they help not only with the packing of lunch but also making that grocery pick up list! If I bought pretzels last paycheck, I’ll grab some goldfish this paycheck that way my options vary but I’m not buying it all in one trip.

And even though I dissed on the PB&J earlier, did you know that you can freeze those bad boys?!? I have a friend that buys a few loads at a time & makes mass quantities of PB&J sandwiches, bags them individually, then into a gallon bag and freezes them. Then when she needs them, she grabs one out of the freezer and tosses it in the lunch box with a fruit & a drink and it’s defrosted by lunchtime! Mind blown. Game changer!
