What Type Of Mom Are You?

Nature, in all of its glory, is full of examples of different types of mothers and families. Our God has masterfully woven together family dynamics of many sorts that we can all relate to in one way or another, especially if we consider how animal families mirror our own. So let’s try a little exercise and see what kind of animal-mommy you are. Depending on how you see yourself, I’ll tell you some fun things to do in Baton Rouge that are perfect for your mommy-type.

Take a read below and tell me… which mommy type are YOU?

What Type Of Mom Are You?

The Elephant

Your home is matriarchal, whether by choice or circumstance. In your circle, mothers are respected and revered for their strength. It takes a village to raise your young, and you know it. You are loyal to your family, and you need them. Your family, whether blood related or not, form a herd and you rely on them to show you the ropes while raising your children. You lean on your family to help care for your young, and you’re never short of adults around to provide support wherever needed. Like African elephant moms, you are wise, and you hold your own mom in high esteem. You teach your kids life skills, like making healthy choices and navigating tough environments.

Your entertainment needs to be a place where the mommy-adults can have as much fun as the kids. Mothers should be rewarded for their hard work too, right?  Operation Imagination is fun for you and younger kiddos, and Belly Fire Studios has been a very recent favorite of ours.

The Gorilla

You have a very strong relationship and bond with your babes. You are nurturing, caring and playing with your kids, all the while comforting and soothing their needs. You hug, play, listen, talk, and teach.  While you are extremely protective, you rely on your partner to be a teammate. Your partner respects you, protects you, and puts both your needs and your kid’s needs first. Your partner is head of the household, but you share in the duties and care of your tribe.

Your kids are playful and could even be described as wild, throwing tantrums and needing lots of attention. Physical play is critical for their development, and you need entertainment that is both physical and fun for the whole family. For families with older kids, check out Civil Axe Throwing in Baton Rouge, where the whole family can exhaust themselves in fun for a very fair price. My family loves this venue, and we have very consistent, positive experiences here. For those with younger kids, Main Event in Baton Rouge has loads of fun for everyone of every age. And of course there is always the Sky Zone trampoline park in Baton Rouge, just make sure you stretch first!

The Emperor Penguin

You’re the breadwinner, the alpha, the almighty mom. You have birthed children and you don’t skip a beat in providing the necessities. But you are only one half of the family puzzle, and you recognize that you couldn’t achieve your goals without the help of your partner. Much like the male penguin is left with the chick eggs to guard from nature’s cruelty, while the mother spends months gathering and storing food for the eggs when they hatch, you too understand and take comfort in your teamwork with your partner. You know that you can’t do what you do without him, and you have full trust that he is caring for your most valued treasure while you are away.

Traveling moms, working moms, and moms with insane schedules, you can’t do it all alone. And your entertainment should be something that your partner and your kids can enjoy. Take a hike through the Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center in Baton Rougewhere the daddies and kiddos can explore critters and nature. I’m not so much a snake and insects kind of gal, but there’s something about our local outdoors that definitely is worth the fun.

Finally…. The Cuckoo Bird

If you’re reading this article, you’re likely NOT a Cuckoo Bird. To be this type, you had a child, tricked another mom into thinking it’s hers’, and abandon your child for the other mother to raise.  If you’re a daughter of a Cuckoo Bird, you probably have deep-seeded abandonment issues, and I cannot imagine how much healing your heart needs. There’s no local entertainment for this type, but there are local therapists who can certainly help.  Here is a great place to start your search.

What kind of mom am I? I’m a gorilla, through and through. My family is a team, and our entertainment has to be one that includes all of us.  I’m competitive, goofy, and love a good time.

So which kind of mom are you?
