Prepare yourself, Game of Thrones is ending.
Over the past 8 seasons, we loyal Game of Thrones fans have been introduced to some of the most intriguing characters from Robert Baratheon to the Knight King, Arya and The Hound, and my personal favorite Sansa Stark.
While parenting may not be the first thing you think of when you think about Game of Thrones, there have been some incredibly interesting mom styles on this show. Some relatable and some downright insane. The wonderful parallel about Game of Thrones is that as wild as some of the characters are, they’re also quite relatable.
Let’s start with Cersei. Cersei is the Kris Jenner of Westeros. She takes the term boss mom to the next level. Her cunning ability to rule the seven kingdoms while balancing family life is unparalleled. Cersei proves that you can have it all but having it all may turn you into an evil, sadistic, incestuous, crazy person. She’s not all bad though, as a mom she has her children’s backs no matter what. Even if that kid is Joffrey Baratheon. Can you imagine Cersei in a parent – teacher conference? I imagine her saying things like, “not my child” or “my child would never do that.”
Every mom needs a mom friend like Gilly. It’s hard not to love Gilly. She’s the mom that you meet at a playdate and find solace with because she’s warm and non-judgmental. Sure, she may not be the smartest or most experienced mom, but she always has an uplifting word of encouragement for other moms in the trenches. I imagine her being a sweet stay at home mom with dreams of attending night college and hopes for a better life.
The fashionable one, Ellaria Sand. She’s the mom that shows up to looking effortless and stylish – despite having a gaggle of kids around her. She’s smart and cool, liberal and up to date with current events. She’s the mom you want to be friends with because she’s open minded and effortless while looking stunning. Plus, she lives in Dorne, so you know she has a great beach house!
Catelyn Stark, she’s matronly and kind but she’ll slit your throat (literally) if you mess with her children. Her greatest joy in life is her children. When they’re sick, when they’re sad, when they’re in love – she’s with them through thick and thin putting her own needs aside. Can’t you just see her volunteering as room mom and being very involved in her children’s school and extracurricular activities?
Finally, there’s Lysa Arryn. She runs the Westeros La Leche league. If you’re going to breastfeed your child until he’s 10-year-old, you deserve that title. She’s the crunchiest of the crunchy moms, and spends her time engaging in social media rants about anti vaccination and essential oil uses.
It’s fun to imagine if the moms of Westeros were part of our actual circles of friends. I personally relate to Ellaria Sand, but if I’m being honest with myself, I’m a Catelyn.
