The older I get, the less I crave material things. And I've noticed that for the past several years the only things I can think to ask for at my birthday are actually for either the house, the kid, or the whole family. This year I made an effort to actually treat myself on my birthday and let me tell you, it was the best birthday I've had in a long time! So if you've got a birthday coming up and are seriously considering asking for a vacuum cleaner, a family vacation, or a baby carrier (that's seriously what I asked for last year), maybe this post can give you some ideas for requesting a gift that's a tiny...

Medical technology is an amazing thing.  Cesareans save many women and babies, and I am so thankful that they are available. However, it is clear that something isn’t right in American obstetric care.  The World Health Organization states that an acceptable cesarean rate to ensure the best outcomes for mothers and babies is between 5 and 15% and that rates above 15% seem to do more harm than good (Althabe and Belizan 2006).  Currently, Louisiana leads the United States with a cesarean rate of just over 40%, more than 3 times the recommended rate.  The US rate is hovering around 30%. April is Cesarean Awareness Month, the perfect time to discuss this important issue. Why are cesareans a big deal?...

Personally, I have two kids and could potentially have 50 or more throughout the week as my Speech patients. Like many people who work with kids, these kids are not just my patients, appointments, or a number. They truly are part of me and I consider each one part of my family. I like to think of myself as an aunt they visit once or twice a week that also helps them to speak, eat, play, and comprehend. I get to hear about when my kids...
I stumbled into the wonderful world of iron-on transfer sheets when LSU football season was quickly approaching and my 4-month-old had nothing to show for it.  I browsed a few shops online and was a bit surprised how expensive their options were. And you can too.  Here is the number one key that I learned to make your shirts look like a design and not scream "iron-on transfer": make sure your design fits within an easy-to-cut-out border.  For this, you'll need to make a shape or download a couple free dingbats that are easy to cut out.  Here is one of my favorites: From there, you can design it...
