My friends and I have tailgated in the same spot for ten years. 2020 would have been the eleventh. It started as a way to stay connected in the wake of graduating from college and not having the go-to sorority and fraternity tents to flock to. It started with an ice chest, a couple of bags of chips, and a scattering of our parents’ tailgate chairs that were too few in number for everyone to sit comfortably. That year the tailgate gained some tents, a grill, and a cover charge. At one point there was a great blow-up tiger, so you could say that things escalated quickly. That first year transformed into a social club of sorts...
At Red Stick Mom, we are on a journey to continuously learn about the importance of supporting our neighbors in marginalized communities where disparity is far too prevalent, specifically in the black community. We’ve been happy to share in supporting various black-owned local businesses and are having conversations with our kids about race. We want to continue to show support which is why are highlighting local organizations who are working diligently to serve our neighbors of color in the Greater Baton Rouge area. Our hope is to raise awareness about the great work they are already doing and share it with others. We are excited to put the spotlight on an amazing non-profit organization called Tankproof.

When quarantine first began, my family was desperate to get outside in an area that wasn’t our backyard but still follow social distancing rules. This desperation led us to our downtown adventure. We learned that there is so much to explore, so many cool things to see and learn about near the River Center area and LSU campus in Baton Rouge. Since then, we've been a hand full more times and always can't wait to go back. Each time we go, it isn't crowded and it is all free! I highly recommend this as a family outing.
