Actively Parenting

In our little family, fitness and being active is a non-negotiable. Throughout middle, high school, and even college I've dabbled in softball, track and field, basketball and my personal favorite, competitive dance. In his six years, he's played soccer, basketball, and baseball and I didn't want to just be a bystander. With him being an only child, he needs someone to practice dribbling and passing with. If my husband and I didn't make working out a priority, we wouldn't be able to do it. In high school, we started dance practice with running two miles. In college,...

BUT there are a few things I could certainly live without...  Holiday party overload... Holiday parties can be very nice and the sentiment behind them is wonderful. It becomes an issue when families overload their calendars with such events. People feel obligated simply because they receive an invite. This is not the purpose of these gatherings. Whether it be office parties, friends, or social organizations, be careful not to overload your holiday calendar with events that you sincerely don't want to attend. For my family, we adopted a rule - we give...

Mom Phrases on Repeat

Do you ever feel like you're beginning to sound like your kid's favorite version of "The Wheels on the Bus" requested to play over and over and over again? I am quickly realizing that raising tiny humans takes quite a bit of reminding them what to do and how to, or not to, act every single day. Although we all have a vast vocabulary, most of the things we say to our kids are probably overused and on constant repeat. Here are my top 10 phrases that are on repeat these days: 1. I asked the teacher what that meant exactly, and she explained it was more paperwork/administrative changes than anything else. Still annoyed about the artwork,...
